You may have gleaned that playing games of "remember when" is one of my favorite pastimes. The memberberries are strong with this one. So when I was perusing (colloquially) the latest May the 4th press release from Disney, my heart swelled when I came to the Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes® Obi-Wan Kenobi cereal. I was instantly taken back to the Saturday mornings of my youth. Watching the cartoons without a big bowl of cereal would have been as incomplete as watching a movie without popcorn. Of course it's also nostalgic because of the original Star Wars cereal:
I know there have been innumerable Star Wars cereals since C-3PO's, including most recently the Mandalorian cereal, but the fact that this is being used to cross promote an upcoming media event is reminiscent of the build up to Episode I, especially considering the source:
I know everyone romanticizes the Revenge of the Sith product launch, but for me nothing will recapture the summer of 1999. It was as if the entire planet conceded itself to the will of Star Wars. These Obi-Wan Kenobi Frosted Flakes are a mini-reminder of that time for me. Proving that Hasbro is not alone, there is a Walmart exclusive box too:
In addition, fans can visit Walmart.com to get their hands on an exclusive Star Wars and Obi-Wan Kenobi-inspired mystery box of Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes. These boxes will feature special packaging, with one side representing the light side and the other representing the dark side of the force. The fun and mysterious part? Only when fans pour a bowl of the cereal will they discover if they are destined to join the Force or give in to the dark side. It all comes down to what's in their bowl — Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes or Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes Chocolate. These special boxes will be available only at Walmart.com starting in June.
Yes, I will be buying a box of this cereal to keep.
