First, I have to say that the official images that were released yesterday for the VC241 - Darth Vader (Dark Times) figure do not do it full justice. If you want to see how truly dynamic this 100% newly tooled Vader is, check out these pics on Instagram. Swipe, or click the arrow on the right to make sure you see all three photos:
I'm percolating, Jerry. I'm mossy. As seen with VC186 - Boba Fett, absolutely, positively definitive versions of the most iconic characters move product like rare few other offerings. If there is one character who draws more water than Boba Fett in the Star Wars universe, it's Darth Vader. Vader figures ALWAYS sell, and without fail. The abysmal, swivel-elbowed 500th Vader was re-released in the Walmart exclusive red-boxed 3.75" line. They all sold. The recent VC178 - Darth Vader figure was mostly kitbashed, and featured an unwanted plastic lower tabard, yet it sold through easily. Now it fetches a premium on the secondary market:
I am excited for a number of reasons. I'm excited because cutting edge Darth Vader figures are an absolute joy. I'm excited because of how well this figure will perform. It will show how much return on investment Hasbro can get from making truly definitive versions of core characters. Finally I'm excited because I believe its sales performance will further bolster the case for giving the same treatment to an Episode IV Luke Skywalker. These are the type of figures that have the broadest appeal among the potential Vintage Collection customer base (i.e. not just the minority who engage within the community).
I am going to order a case of these figures at 1PM ET today. Please check back here at that time and we will have the shopping links posted.
