So you may be wondering how I landed on eight for this list. It's simple. I realized I wanted the list to represent the four most recent non-movie new media properties, so I simply decided to pick two from each (lest the list become entirely Jedi Fallen Order and The Mandalorian). Lastly this is my list. When we do these "top" lists, they are either "most needed" or "personal.” The "most needed" lists try to represent the needs of the community. That is not this list. It's just the ravings of a lone nut, who may or may not have a chicken.
1. Second Sister (Trilla Suduri) Jedi Fallen Order
I have been enamored with the Second Sister since the first trailer for Fallen Order. I love the Inquisitors, and Sarah Michelle Geller's Seventh Sister would be my most wanted Rebels figure, if that's what this list were. Trilla is simply a great gaming character both for the story and the design. It's honestly one of my most wanted figures period.
2. Boba Fett (Rearmored) The Mandalorian
If Hasbro ever announced this figure, I would be super excited to get it, but I'm not excited to put it on a list. It's a "well duh" figure. Boba Fett is getting his own series laster this year, so this figure is practically compulsory. I don't like including entries on these lists that everyone would bet the house is coming at some point.
3. Jedi Master Sskeer The High Republic
I don't care if you're not following The High Republic. I don't care if you decided you hate The High Republic despite not reading it. If you wouldn't kill for a figure of a one-armed Trandoshan Jedi Master, you can just get out.
Hasbro, please note: the arm would need to be removable.
4. Ahsoka Tano (Corvus) The Mandalorian
What? My second Mandalorian pick isn't Bo-Katan? I'll be honest, that character really doesn't connect with me. Whittling down Mandalorian to two selections was exceedingly difficult, but for me that meant choosing between this Ahsoka, Fennec Shand, the Dark Trooper, and Luke Skywalker. The Ginger Mando wasn't in my top five. Ahsoka ultimately won in my one-man debate because she's Ahsoka.
5. Hunter The Bad Batch
If you don't want a John Rambo Clonetrooper, you can just get out. Have I used that yet? Star Wars made its bones by playing on familiar and identifiable themes while in a completely strange and alien galaxy. The recent media has returned to that formula for the better. Mando and Grogu captured the father/son theme, and Hunter and Omega are daddy/daughter (with the big idiot brother, Wrecker).
6. Cal Kestis Jedi Fallen Order
This is an example of a figure's desire being elevated by context. If I was basing these picks strictly on how compelling I found the source, Nightsister Merrin would be my second Fallen Order entrant. But the recently announced Purge Trooper and Shock Scout Trooper immediately elevates the need for a Cal Kestis figure.
7. Crosshair The Bad Batch
If we have Hunter, we need a foil, and who is better than the snake in the grass, Crosshair. That's not just me saying that. Dee Bradley Baker described him as a "coiled snake" when developing his voice. Sniper class figures can be difficult to execute at this scale since they need to interact with longer rifles, but modern "Jedi Level Articulation" can pull it off.
8. Jedi Master Loden Greatstorm The High Republic
While I feel like Sskeer is the more compelling figure, Loden Greatstorm was my favorite character in The Light of the Jedi. The tandem of the Twi'lek Jedi Master and Bell Zettifar was the best developed master/padawan relationship in the book. There is something compelling to me about a character who is constantly teaching and mentoring.
So how did I do? Let us know what your picks are in the comments, and I don't need to hear over and over again that I missed Bo-Katan.
