Lately, I've been providing a recap and response to recent reveals the following day. This wasn't practical for the Celebration reveals since they fell on the Friday before the Memorial Day holiday here in the United States. In other words, no one would have read it because they would have been traveling, attending cookouts, avoiding family, or pursuing lives of religious fulfillment. That long weekend was followed up by two Mr. Nomadscout reviews (hey, I'm not going to work if he's going to do stuff). So, my reactions are coming later, and I've decided to take them one at a time (more content!). I've already done this for R2-SHW, and next up is the Deluxe Darktrooper.
My reaction is this:
This, to me, is exactly what the Deluxe expression should be all about. In addition to a hefty figure, we get world-building environment pieces, swappable hands and flame effects. On the surface it presents so much more value than Boba Fett and a couple of Stormtrooper helmets (but I need to remind everyone that costly paint applications are at least part of the reason for the expense of that Fett). I actually wouldn't mind if the Deluxe platform was extended to include basic figures with environment pieces. I think this is something for which we've been constantly clamoring. How about that definitive Stormtrooper that no one can buy with some Death Star walls? Or a gray tunic Imperial Navy Commander with the communication console? Give me more of this stuff.
As for this Darktrooper, I immediately ordered 8 from Entertainment Earth, 2 from Pulse and 2 more from Target. It's a race to see who delivers first! This was far and away the highlight of the Celebration reveals for me. I'm thrilled to have this coming to the Vintage Collection. I just hope we don't have to wait until March of 2023 to get it. The Obi-Wan Kenobi wave is currently showing up in New Zealand, so maybe we can get these Darktroopers before year's end.
