As we have become accustomed to, we will be treated to a product reveal livestream for Star Wars Day tomorrow. It will be a little earlier than usual starting at 10AM ET, and will be hosted by Jing, Chris, Emily, and Eric from the Star Wars brand team on the Hasbro Pulse YouTube channel (see embedded Instagram post at the bottom of this article). Normally we discuss what we hope to be shown during these livestreams. If you follow the right social media accounts (or account), you likely already know what will be shown, but that is not what's on everyone's mind.
Instead, we will all be on pins and needles to see if Hasbro makes the somewhat unfathomable choice to ditch plastic from the "packaging" of a product where, for a great many customers, the packaging is the product. This is something Hasbro themselves have repeatedly acknowledged by putting TVC carded figures inside other packaging. We've seen other brand teams break this news in recent livestreams, and I have to say, they come across like doctors who are delivering unwanted news to a patient. I fully expect this to happen tomorrow, and know that in my opinion, it will mark the beginning of the end of the 3.75" line. If sales are the key to its survival, I see no way it makes it through this crucible alive.
Okay, I'm basically repacking my article from the other day at this point, so I will wrap it up. Are you excited for the things that will be revealed, or are you more anxious about a potential plastic-free packaging announcement? Here is the aforementioned Instagram post:
