These Walmart exclusives are having a rough go of it. Like many of you, I pre-ordered the Vintage Collection Lando Calrissian in Skiff Guard Disguise the second the listing went live. The first complication is that Walmart has been executing a pre-authorization hold DAILY for about a week as reported by our friends at Jedi Temple Archives. Those pre-order figures had (and still have) an availability date of 4/17.
When the figure appeared in stock this past Monday with free 2-day shipping and promise of a 4/3 delivery, I said "sure, I'll have another." That order stayed in the "preparing" status from the moment of order all the way through the supposed 4/3 shipping window. Checking again this morning, the 4/3 delivery estimate is gone, and that order now says:
Delayed—check back later for status update
The status of my pre-ordered figures still says:
Will be ready Wed, Apr 17 after 6pm
While this is probably just the standard "SNAFU" of a low volume item at a high volume retailer, I have to wonder if the pre-orders weren't sufficiently taken out of "inventory" when the figure went up for sale on Monday. So far none of the Vintage Collection Walmart exclusives have gone well. Island Journey never showed up and was moved to a shared online exclusive. The Mimban Stormtrooper was incorrectly listed at $19.99 with Walmart refusing to issue refunds in some cases when the price was later corrected. Now the Lando Skiff Guard roll out has been beset by issues. Thank God there are no other Walmart exclusives on the horizon. What's that? The Jabba's Palace Adeventure Set is a Walmart exclusive?!?
OH, C'MON!
Still, my stance on exclusives remains unchanged. When all is said an done this will just be a speed bump on the way to getting our collectibles. The road has been bumpy, but I haven't heard of a single U.S. collector being left out on any of the Walmart items so far. The pain and frustration of the Walmart experience is better than not getting the item at all (which is likely the alternative).
