In the latest episode of the “Hollywood Babble-On” podcast, Kevin Smith has offered his theory on what 'The Rise of Skywalker' means. In short, his theory is that "Skywalker" is now the title of the religion and its adherents similar to the way "Jedi" was prior to The Last Jedi. Site Indie Wire provided a transcript. They write:
“The last movie was ‘The Last Jedi,'” Smith said...“What if they are telling us the [expletive] title? The way that Jedi has been used historically in these movies, including in the last movie – ‘the last Jedi, the Jedis must end,’ all that [expletive] – what if that’s it for the Jedis? And perhaps the new religion [are the Skywalkers]? Didn’t that just give you [expletive] chills? What if it’s that?”
Smith continues:
Wouldn’t that be [expletive] dope? Like, [Luke] was so [expletive] important – like, I’m going to cry – to the universe, that from then on, they named the order after [him]. They’re all Skywalkers.
It's getting a little misty here too, but that essentially makes Luke "Jedi Jesus." I'm not sure Disney is eager to test any cultural third rails.
While Kevin Smith is another of Bantha Skull's favorite directors, he likes to work blue (as evidenced by the obfuscated cursing in quotes above), and Bantha Skull is an all ages site. So WARNING: the following links contain foul language.
