It’s My NFL Bye Week And There’s A Lesson To Be Learned About TVC

I have been a diehard New England Patriots fan since 1985 when Craig James was holding John Hannah's belt all the way to a humiliating Super Bowl XX defeat at the hands of the indomitable Chicago Bears. There's a popular narrative that no Patriots fans existed before 2001, and to that I say that I lived throug the Rod Rust, Dick MacPherson, Hugh Millen and Victor Kiam eras (with some overlap), and aside from confirming the spelling, none of those names had to be looked up. I often called modern day Patriots player Patrick Chung "Eugene Chung" because in 1992, the Patriots drafted a former Judo champ to play guard. Also not looked up. Yes, this entire opening paragraph was for me to brag about my bonafides. I swear there is a Star Wars collecting angle coming.

Today marks the Patriots bye week, meaning they will not be playing a game. That further means that instead of rooting for my team, I will be rooting against other teams. Specifically, I will be rooting against the Bills, Ravens and Titans. Rooting against is bad. It's a well known fact that it causes testicular cancer. When it comes to the NFL where only one team ends the season happy, rooting against is sometimes necessary. Only one team can ultimately win. When it comes to Star Wars product offerings, there is no reason why everything can't win. Specifically both the Vintage Collection and The Black Series can succeed on their own merit.

I sense that some Vintage Collection diehards were rooting agains the recent Black Series Rancor HasLab campaign. I will fully admit that I fell in to this trap early in the campaign. Spite overtook me. Then as the campaign wore on, I realized that was a poor attitude, and I backed a pair of Rancors. Unfortunately, the campaign did not fund. There is no reason why both scales can't sink or swim on their own merit, and I will contend that the customer bases are largely mutually exclusive. Only in the rarest of circumstances will I buy something from the "way too big stupid scale". Whoops, there's that spite again. The point is that investing in both scales by Hasbro only results in new found profits and customers. There is no borrowing from Peter to pay Paul because both Peter and Paul should be able to fund themselves.

This is why I continue to say that Vintage Collection collectors shouldn't be anti-TBS (again, even though I do fall into this trap myself sometimes). We should only promote the positives of the world building scale. Our preference for 3.75" has no bearing on others who have a preference for 1:12.
