As you can see from Mr. Nomadscout's recent spate of reviews, amazing accessories from past figure lines can make utterly obsolete and inferior figures still worth purchasing today. Due to the coffin bubbles and cost, these type of accessories are not possible in the Vintage Collection, but I am saddened that Hasbro has not filled this void with a complimentary product line for environmental and diorama pieces. They do not need to be as robust as the Adventure Sets. Even small pieces, such as crates, can really elevate a display. There is a huge void for something like this in the $20 price range.
On that note, I decided to take matters into my own hands and finally purchase a Hole In The Ground Productions diorama piece. Specifically I purchased the Command Console for when we review the upcoming Vintage Collection K-2SO. It has been a very rewarding purchase for me. The offerings are model kits that you have to paint, assemble, and to which you potentially add stickers (depending on the model). Based on the included recommendations, I painted the model with base coats of Krylon Fusion All-In-One flat black and then sealed it with Krylon Fusion All-In-One flat clear, which was noted as optional. I highly recommend adding the clear coat. It really puts the final touches on the appearance.
You have to cut the stickers off the sheet yourself. My wife recommended using her fabric cutter and cutting mat for this purpose and it worked exceedingly well. This Command Console model is forgiving when it comes to sticker application, so I was able to apply them easily using my bare hands (no tweezers, etc.). So is this right for you? If you find the patience needed for model building to be frustrating, you want to give this a pass. However, if you enjoy making scale models, you'll love these dioramas. I thoroughly enjoyed the assembly process and working on getting the proper finish. I had to sand down some of my sloppier rattle can work and reapply, but it wasn't much of a set back. Patience and attention to detail is the key. I did get a little sloppy with the glue as it got later in the night as you can see at the base of the panel to the far right (facing the model). I will clean that up later. Note I did get the 8 panel model, but I only glued in 5 so I have flexibility for our photography.
