Editor's note: A big thank you to reader and friend Agustín, who risked life and limb to brave the NYCC crush to get these images for us.
It was a strange journey, that seemed to test the boundaries of integrity. Not only was the campaign extended significantly as the initial deadline approached, but large numbers of backers were added as the second deadline approached. This was explained by the Hasbro Pulse Facebook Page:
We’ve added additional UNICRON supporters from around the globe that have backed the project through Hasbro affiliated retailers to our total tally.
That move brought the project close enough to success that people started jumping on at the very end to get it across the goal line. Whatever the deal was, if you were a backer of the project, you should be pleased with the news, and congratulations to you on having your dream Transformers project become a reality!
What's next for HasLab? We don't know. We're obviously hoping for something Star Wars (and something 3.75" from this corner), but I would be somewhat concerned about the "extended deadline" issue that was put into play by Unicorn. Will this "ruin" the integrity of the campaign? Would future campaigns lose the luster of that approaching deadline? Would potential backers hold off from participation with the expectation that they will have more time?
Who knows? The bottom line here is that Unicron got made, and if you backed it, you're getting it. At this point, with 14 hours still to go and FOMO in full force, the count is at 8,532. That's at almost $600 dollars for a character that (as I understand it) already exists in the TF line.
So we NEED to keep the conversation going on that dream Star Wars 3.75" item we've all been pining for. What would you like to see? How much would you expect to have to pay for that item? Would you pay it?
