HASLAB:  The Razor Crest Is Trying to Make Things Interesting

Posted by Bret on 11/02/20 at 12:08 AM Category: Vintage Collection, HasLab

The Sail Barge campaign was a torturous 45 days of stomach-churning agita. For a significant portion of the run, it seemed like it was doomed to fail. But then came the carded Yak Face announcement, and the trajectory of backers took a positive turn that slowly gained momentum until finally passing the magic 5,000 requirement with only a few days to spare, finishing with a crazy flourish in the last 72 hours that pushed the final number above 8800.

The Razor Crest campaign has been a lot less nerve-racking. It reached its 6000 funding goal in just over a day. The drama now revolved around the unlockable stretch goals. At first we knew there were two. The escape pod that was Unlock #1 was underwhelming for many people, but the reveal of the carded Baby Yoda with exclusive shift knob and vac metal pram was a revelation. Nevertheless, many fans continued to complain (as we do) that the most obvious extras should have been the carbonite slabs seen in S1:E1. Hasbro came through with Unlock #3, and eventually fans supported enough purchases to secure the slabs. Many of us assumed that would be it, but Hasbro surprised us with unlock #4 and #5. Naturally, more complaining ensued when the unlocks were not immediately unveiled upon the securing of #3. A painful day and a half passed, but we finally were treated to images of the flight stand at 15K and the carded Jawa chieftain at 17K.

With exactly 8 days left as of midnight ET Monday 11/2, the Razor Crest had 14,556 backers. Banthaskull had unleashed the full computing power of the ENIAC over the weekend. On Saturday morning, we needed 13.3 backers per hour (bph) to achieve 17K by the end of the campaign. With 192 hours left, that rate now stands at a slightly improved 12.7 bph.

If we continue at the backer pace we saw this past weekend, it would seem we're on track to finish just above the 17K threshold needed for the 5th Unlock. But both Chris and I are strong believers that we'll see a huge FOMO surge in the final days, which will likely blow past 17K easily. So while I'll be closely monitoring the count because I REALLY WANT THAT #$&@! JAWA CHIEFTAIN, I'm really just looking for an excuse to pretend this is going to be close. It isn't. The real question is, how high can it go?

I NEED THIS!
