Hasbro Star Wars SDCC Panel Later Today (And CJ Reacts!)

Those who read the tea leaves suggested that we might want to get our hopes up heading into this year's plastic dog and pony show. In fact it would seem that Hasbro had so much planned that they couldn't fit it all into their allotted hour that they surreptitiously let 2 reveals slip out before the show.



On Wednesday, the good people at Bossk's Bounty revealed the deluxe Amani Warrior from The Mandalorian and Grogu. While this figure had not previously pipelined, it was widely expected from the first glimpse of a (fearsome) Amani in the trailer.

After seeing their relatively significant screen time in the film, this figure moved into no-brainer territory, and it appears to fit the bill rather nicely. I'm a little nervous about the way the neck cut turned out, but I think it will look fine in most poses. The accessory compliment, while maybe not "deluxe" in and of itself, is strong enough that we won't feel skimped.

I'm kind of at the point where I'm not going to ask for anything from this movie, but I'll probably buy anything else they release. Bit a lot of the excitement around this figure is that it heralds an even more exciting nigh guaranteed future release of the O96 Jabba's Palace Amani known as Amanaman (doot doo do-do-do).



I don't really know who this is for, but it isn't me. I do not begrudge Kitsch, but high-end kitsch doesn't make any sense to me. So here we have a TVC-quality X-Wing (with Luke and R2) rendered incongruous with the rest of the Vintage Collection by its low-fi coloration. I would imagine people who care about card numeration should be especially frustrated with the release (particularly if they happen to be stoners).

Maybe this will do fine and I'm the one who's out of touch. Maybe the simplistic and incorrect paint apps somehow cost negative money so this will be great for the bottom line. I'm not an accountant. But we all know that TVC often feels like it stands on fragile ground. I do fear that a failure of a novelty repaint like this could (once again) send the wrong message about what fans do or do not want.

Finally, to address Hasbro directly: KENNER REPAINTS ARE NOT WHAT WE WANT TO CELEBRATE THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF STAR WARS! Leave that stuff in Black Series where it makes even less sense.
