I honestly don't know what to make of this livestream. Hasbro is doing an event for Toy Fair this Saturday (3/1). We were invited, and we RSVP'd, but Hasbro's PR firm hasn't sent out confirmations yet. Do they know how New York City works? I don't know if things have changed, but when I was traveling there frequently for work, you had to make your arrangements reasonable far in advance. Even if my RSVP is confirmed at this point, it's too close for comfort for me, so sadly, Bantha Skull will not be attending. But it begs the question, would Hasbro be having two reveal events within five days?
There is certainly precedent for that. It happened recently. In October, we had a decent slate of reveals at both New York Comic Con and MCM London Comic Con. Both of those announcements came within ten days of one another, but there's a key difference. Those events were external to Hasbro. If they wanted to participate, they had to adhere to that breakneck schedule. Livestreams are scheduled at Hasbro's discretion. So if Toy Fair is also going to be a reveal event, it seems odd that Hasbro would elect to schedule a separate reveal just five days prior. Since I won't be in attendance this Saturday, I'm hoping today's livestream is effectively the Toy Fair livestream, and the event at the Javits Center this weekend will just be a chance for outlets to see the physical samples of what we'll be shown in a few hours.
So if all of my conjecture is correct, and this is effectively the Toy Fair livestream, does that mean we're in store for some big reveals today? No. Toy Fair has become deemphasized since 2020. Other public and/or Star Wars events have become better suited for such things, and we have a couple big ones coming up soon. Celebration Japan is only seven weeks away on April 18th. Then, a mere few weeks later, we have May the 5th, which has traditionally been cause for some big announcements. If you remember correctly, that was supposed to be when the Cantina HasLab was announced, until it was delayed at the last moment.
I suspect any juicy reveals will be held for those two major Star Wars events. I expect today to be somewhat light. I put the over/under on Vintage Collection reveals at 3.5. Don't forget to come back at 11 AM ET where we will have an embed of the stream. Just look for a post with this lead-in image:
