Droids Boba Fett Showing Up In Droves In Store And That Makes Me Mad

To say that I've been nervous about the release of the Droids Boba Fett is an understatement. If you've been a loyal reader, you know that I've been campaigning for its release for a long time. I even mentioned it to Steve Evans back at HasCon (remember that?) in 2017. I was so nervous about its release going south that I paid a hefty fortune to have a few imported from overseas (as did many collectors). I even wrote THIS ARTICLE wondering if it was on its way to becoming a de facto Ollie's exclusive. So the fact that there are numerous reports coming in that the figures are being found in-store (usually via back room pulls), is good news, even if one case per store probably isn't enough to meet demand. Hopefully Target will replenish at least once.

Having said that, I wouldn't be a collector if I didn't find something to complain about. Complain is too strong of a word. It's more of a check on what it otherwise praiseworthy. And that check is, why does Target continue to leave preorders unfulfilled when product starts arriving? Shouldn't preorders, which are limited by Target, be treated with some sort of respect? This should be especially true considering that the preorder process if often grueling with many fans taking time off from work just to get their orders in. I'm not saying that preorders should be fulfilled before the items show up in stores, but the "processing" emails should go out somewhat concurrently. It seems clear that the brick and mortar stores come first, and the preorders get fulfilled if and when Target gets around to it. It just feels like there's something a little wrong about that.

I know it might not seem like that big of a deal, but this is Target. There's a familiar pattern with their preorders. First, you start this weekly tradition of having to approve a delay in the delivery date. If you happen to miss one of these weekly approvals, your preorder gets cancelled. Then, even if you do the dance correctly, there's still a 50/50 chance that your preorder gets canceled anyway. I've actually stopped preordering basic figures from Target for this reason.

I have no horse in this race anymore. As I mentioned earlier, I have my Droids Boba Fett figure from overseas, but I hope everyone who is relying on their preorders gets theirs.
