Overall, the fan community is down on The Book of Boba Fett. I don't think anyone would disagree with that statement. The Rotten Tomatoes popcorn meter for the Star Wars fan community is definitely hovering below 50%. I personally like the series overall, but I fully admit that it comes with some baggage. There are definite negatives, but with the exception of A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and possibly Andor, can't that be said about every other piece of Star Wars entertainment in history? This article will later focus on two specific properties, but first I need to address one common criticism of The Book of Boba Fett.
If your reason for not liking BoBF is because of the direction in which the took the character of Boba Fett, there is no argument I could possible make to counter that. It's a perfectly valid opinion to which anyone is certainly entitled. While I don't personally agree, I can absolutely appreciate why some fans would feel that way. It's no different to how I feel about the treatment of Luke Skywalker in that Sequel Trilogy episode that shall not be named. If you are of the opinion that this is not the Boba Fett you wanted to see, this article is not directed at you. What I'm addressing here is more about the fans who want to throw out The Book of Boba Fett for the jarring use of flashback, the Vespa gang, and the ridiculous Robert Rodriguez spin-o-rama blaster shots.
I want to contrast the mostly negative reception of The Book of Boba Fett with the mostly positive reception of The Clone Wars and Rebels. When I look at social media, I'm sometimes lead to believe that those two animated shows are modern day equivalents of Citizen Kane. And at this point I have to issue another disclaimer lest the comment section calls for my assassination. I very much LIKE and at times LOVED both Rebels and The Clone Wars. Each series gets two enthusiastic thumbs up from me. Okay? OKAY? Having said that, I can also admit that each series comes with a fair amount of cringe. The Clone Wars Mandalorian school milk scandal arc is literally what lead to the series eventual cancellation, and I would rather watch all of Jar Jar Binks' clips on a loop than subject myself to the Rebels meiloorun episode again. I need to remind you that this Stormtrooper MISSED this shot.
HE MISSED THAT DANK FARRIK SHOT!!!!
But when The Clone Wars and Rebels are on their A-game, it is some great Star Wars content, and that is the point of this article. I feel the fan community does not judge those two series on their cringe moments. Instead, they are evaluated on what they get right, and I agree with that. Conversely, the community focuses on what The Book of Boba Fett got wrong, and ignores the positives. I say "boo" to that. At the time of this writing, the Mandlorian season 3 is three episodes deep, and BoBF's From the Desert Comes a Stranger is better than all three. Go back and give it another watch. I did. We need to focus on what The Book of Boba Fett did right instead of fixating on the negatives.
