Get to the Gunship

I apologize to our regular members of the comment section for this article. Many of you are well aware of the subjects about to be discussed, but there are many more readers of this site than just those contributing to the discussion. I haven't counted the unique Disqus names, but I highly suspect that those active in the comment section represent about one percent of our readership. It's natural to assume that our silent members might not be as engaged in the hobby overall as us zealots. As such, this information might be helpful. We need all the backers we can get, and I'd hate if someone skipped the Gunship due to a misconception.

”I'm going to back, but I'll wait until the end.”

Right now, this is the issue that concerns me the most. If you know you are planning to back at some point, please do so sooner rather than later. There is no downside to backing right now, but there may be upside. Regardless of when you back, you don't get charged until the end of the campaign, which is September 8th (actually very early in the morning on September 9th). And that's only if it funds. If it fails to get to 8,000 backers, you don't get charged. So whether you back right this second, or at 11:58 PM and 59 seconds on September 8th, you get charged at the same time. There is no advantage to waiting if you know now that you want this, but by backing now, you might play a part in getting others to do the same.

There's a huge psychological component to these crowdfunding campaigns. At the time of this writing, the Gunhip is just over 40% funded. That's too far away from being "real" for FOMO (fear of missing out) mechanics to start feeding the backing. But the closer these campaigns get to funding, the faster the rate of backers becomes as FOMO kicks in. The sooner we get to that point, the better the campaign will do. Backing sooner rather than later helps immensely. So if you already know that you're definitely going to back, but haven't done so yet, please consider doing it now. ”I don't have the room.”

This is a common refrain on every HasLab, and it's certainly a valid one. I said on a livestream that due to space reasons I was done with big HasLabs until a Death Star gets announced. Then I saw this Gunship and was blown away. I've already figured out how I'm going to make it work via some shelf consolidation. Also, the flight stand can be helpful in optimizing your display space. The stand has a smaller footprint than the ship itself, so it can be placed on a smaller shelf (or other surface) and the bulk of the ship can overflow into the empty space. Before my Star Wars room was finished, I had the Razor Crest displayed in my office. Even though the ship is huge, I was able to display it on top of a set of drawers that was maybe 20" x 20".

Additionally (and more importantly), Mr. Stevie demonstrated in THIS INSTAGRAM POST how the Gunship becomes "shelf installable" by removing one of the wings and engines. He demonstrates it being installed on top of a 14.5" wide Detolf shelf (with 4.5" of the wing overhanging) in this image:

With one wing and engine removed, the Gunship becomes a svelte 19" wide. I may actually opt for this display option since I will be displaying it in profile, and thus one wing will be hidden from sight anyway:

”They're going to make those Jedi figures anyway.”

stretch goal Jedi

The stretch goals feel so far away right now that I'm not sure they're playing a factor for backers. But if you want them, right now the only shot to get them is if those goals are met. Hasbro has said that there are no plans to release them outside of this HasLab. Remember, what we've seen are digital renders and 3D printed prototypes. That is not the costly part of the R&D process. The big cost is the steel tooling which will only get cut if they fund. And we really need a new Saesee Tiin and Agen Kolar. The former is stuck with swivel elbows, and the range of motion on the latter is so poor that it might as well be a 5POA figure (hyperbole acknowledged).

I hope this has been helpful, and hopefully it motivates some of you to back. If it does, you can do so by CLICKING HERE.
