Did The Book Of Boba Fett Reference The Holiday Special

First, I need to reiterate that I am hopelessly hooked into this show. I can't wait for Wednesday morning to watch the new episode. So far there have been no Jedi, no Sith, no Imperials and no Rebels and I absolutely, positively love it. I feel like we've all been clamoring for something off the "galactic civil war" story line, and The Book of Boba Fett is delivering. I also love how the show is taking its time. Presumably because of the runaway success of The Mandalorian, BoBF didn't feel pressure to jump straight into the meat of the plot. This show is a slow simmer, and I can sense an epic payoff building. I can't wait. It's going to be epic.

Some spoilers for Chapter 3 follow below.

As for the the subject of this article, Chapter 2 showed us that the Rancor cave under the palace is unoccupied, or perhaps it's occupied by the Black Series Rancor (too soon?). In Chapter 3, Jabba's twin cousins gift Boba with a male Rancor calf as a token of apology for sending Black Krrsantan to kill him the previous night. The cousins are retreating back to Hutta because the spineless Mayor Mok Shaiz has promised Jabba's former territory to another syndicate, which we later learn are the Pyke. The Twins also leave behind a new Rancor Keeper who is played by none other than frequent Robert Rodriquez collaborator, Danny Trejo. DANNY [EXPLETIVE] TREJO IS IN STAR WARS! Something feels right about this.

We cut to the Rancor cave, where the Rancor Keeper is introducing Fett to the intricacies of his new pet. The Keeper informs Boba that the Nightsisters of Dathomir would ride Rancors through the forest. The new Daimyo also wants to learn how to ride the beast. The Keeper informs him that this is no easy skill to master, to which Fett replies:

Theses Disney+ live action shows have been littered with Easter Eggs both overt and subtle. I admit that I'm not 100% up to speed on the latest comics featuring Boba Fett, but I can only recall one source where he rides a massive beast that is "ten times the size" of a Rancor. In the Holiday Special animated short, The Story of the Faithful Wookiee, Boba Fett rides a beast called a Panna dragon:

The relative scaling of the two beasts certainly seem to jive, and it appears that this has now canonized the events for The Story of the Faithful Wookiee, which marks Boba Fett's debut in the Star Wars universe. Maybe now we can get a new Y-Wing with a detachable escape pod.

Both The Book of Boba Fett and The Story of the Faithful Wookiee are currently available on the Disney+ streaming service.
