Decompressing From The Craziness Of Boba Fett Morak

I haven't had a second to really ingest the announcement of the Boba Fett (Morak) announcement. News of it (to me) dropped at around 7PM ET. It had actually been announced two hours earlier via Games Radar. I don't know what Games Radar is, so I didn't personally know about it until the Litzky email dropped in my inbox two hours later. Since I didn't see nary a mention of it on social media prior to that PR email, I suspect that most of humanity doesn't know about Games Radar either. Newsflash: If Yak Face isn't reporting on it, it's flying under the radar. This late breaking announcement didn't allow me to appreciate the figure. It's stunning. This will be an utterly amazing addition to the Vintage Collection lineup.

That leads us to the ordering process yesterday. First of all, if you were able to secure your preorder, and you're still complaining:

RDJ eye roll

There's a firm rule when it comes to adults and whining: no harm, no foul. If you got yours and you're complaining over principal, just leave it. There are collectors, some of them good friends of this site, who missed out on the preorder entirely because it did not go live when it was supposed to. Save the complaining for those who missed out on the product (for now). If our Twitter poll is to be believed, half of you missed out. My heart goes out to you.

Second, if you're blaming Hasbro because Target fumbled the product launch, or for the mere fact that Hasbro "gave" this exclusive to Target:

RDJ eye roll

Target and Walmart are two of Hasbro's biggest accounts. They far outstrip the buying power of all of Fan Channel combined. They are going to get whatever exclusives they want. It's a fact of life. The biggest customers get preferential treatment. Getting upset about this is on par with yelling at a cloud. Target and Walmart are going to continue to get juicy exclusives, and it's actually a good thing. Be concerned when they don't want exclusives.

Having said all of that, and with the preface that is nothing but constructive criticism (not whining), this was not communicated well. Communication is free, and there's no reason to not do it well. As we now know, we were initially given the wrong MSRP. It was corrected before the preorder, so ultimately there was no foul here. We also didn't officially know that Boba Fett (Morak) was a Target exclusive until about 15 minutes before sales went live. In fact, the 7PM Monday press release referred fans to the official site, which had absolutely no information about this figure. A lot of fans have day jobs, and can't be glued to the internet throughout the day. This wasn't enough lead time. Ultimately, if you were able to preorder the figure, these are nothing but annoyances on the way to purchasing what looks to be an amazing figure. Even if all of these things were communicated better, you would still be in the same place you are today, but that's not to say there isn't room for improvement.

On the Target side, not having the preorder live at the reported time is inexcusable. Many collectors set aside time from their work day so they could order the figure figure at 1PM ET. At some point, they had to cut bait and go back to work. They didn't find out that the presale was live until it was too late. Hopefully something can be done to help these fans. They got a raw deal.
