Chris And Bret React To The 02/04 Reveals

I don't know if there was a livestream I missed or some sort of planned announcement. All I know is that I received a DM with THIS POST from my pal Tyler with a reaction that was reminiscent of the "I'll have what she's having" scene in When Harry Met Sally. Regardless of the genesis of this announcement, I love this sort of surprise via official channels. Hasbro gave us a glimpse of their support for the upcoming Maul series; and in advance. How about that?

And now, let us react.

VC386 - Marrok

VC386 - Marrok

Chris:

Disney has made a lot of storytelling decisions that have left me scratching my head since they acquired Lucasfilm. But who am I to judge? Star Wars has never been stronger or more culturally relevant [/sarcasm]. Their decision with Marrok is one such example. He had that Star Wars cool factor when he was first revealed. He reminded me of Rinzler in Tron: Legacy (a criminally under-appreciated movie). Then they decided to turn him into an anthropomorphic fart in a suit. It was anticlimactic after the build-up and he became a punchline with many fans. I typically don't want figures of characters that become jokes.

Then the trailer for Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord dropped, and it shows Marrok was returning to the small screen which offers the potential for some redemption with fans. I've made no secret that I'm not a huge fans of the animated shows (despite naming my dog after a Bad Batcher). So there's a lot conspiring against this figure with me, and...I love it. This figure looks amazing. It's Snake Eyes with a double bladed red light saber. Liquify it and inject it into my veins. I've pulled back on my carded collection this year, but this is definitely a one and one figure for me.

Bret:

I am typically less interested in figures from newer media. To be clear, I am not un-interested, just less so than if it was something from the OT or PT. But I do have some things that I'd like to see built out more. We have a lot of neat stuff from Ahsoka, even if the show is a bit underwhelming. This character was cool until he wasn't. But for whatever reason, I have a bit of an interest in Hasbro completing a particular new media crew, and I'm not entirely sure why. That crew is the Inquisitorius. Sadly, we only have 2: Grand Inquisitor and Third Sister. I've wanted Second Sister since we got to play Jedi: Fallen Order, and I would absolutely love a figure of Ninth Sister, the giant Dowutin, from the same game. Various other members have been in Rebels, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Ahsoka. That includes Marrok, who I just learned is actually known as First Brother. So yeah, I'm good with this guy as a figure, even if he wasn't now in the Maul show.

VC390 - Eleventh Brother

VC390 - Eleventh Brother

Chris:

If it weren't for the Maul trailer, my reaction to this announcement would have been like the construction workers in Major League reacting to the Indians roster. If you know, you know. They say a very bad word, so I can't embed it. If you would like the edited for TV version:

Who the fudge are these guys?

But this is another case where the figure is just so dang cool that I don't really care what the source is. It reminds me of the Sith figures from the Legacy comics. Even it you didn't read the book, you can't tell me you don't want a Darth Talon figure. I think this is one of the coolest figures I've seen in a while. This is another easy one and one for me. The only thing that concerns me is the open left hand. There is no way it can grip the saber hilt despite the fact that it's exactly how the character is depicted in the card.

I have a feeling Marrok and the Eleventh Brother will be two of the hotter figures from 2026 when all is said and done. Kudos to Hasbro for getting us these figures in a timely fashion for the media launch.

Bret:

My reaction is nearly the same as I had for First Brother Marrok. I think it's cool that we are adding to this fledgling group of Inquisitors, and I really hope we get more. I watched the Tales cartoon on D+ where Ahsoka killed this guy. He was pretty awesome looking, and I was disappointed he was dispatched relatively easily and that was the end of that. Now that he's in Maul, I'm actually pretty interested in this guy as a figure. He looks great (like Marrok), so I'm looking forward to adding it to my collection.

Maybe these aren't exactly at the top of my list of figures I want, but I'll take 'em. Second Sister is on my March Madness this year and was #2 for me last year, so I'd really like Hasbro to give her a shot. Now with Marrok, we've got the Grand guy, 1st Brother, and 3rd Sister. Getting Trilla would at least fill the gap for the first handful of Inquisitors at the top of the roster. Then we'd simply need seven more to close the loop on 11th Brother. Tick tock, Hasbro.

So that's what we two idiots think. Let us know your reaction below.
