Chapter 6 Of The Book Of Boba Fett Left Me Emotionally Drained In A Good Way

Catharsis.

I've loved Star Wars since almost my first memory. I can not separate myself from it. It's part of my identity. I cherish it. Yet, for daring to deeply love an IP for which Disney paid $4 billion, and demanding it be respected, I was labeled toxic. Projection, thy name is Disney LFL circa the mid 2010's. There are rare few people who will never have to pay for a beer in my presence. Dave Filoni joins Tom Brady among a few others in that club. If you speak ill of Mr. Filoni in my presence, you best be prepared to go knuckles.

I wanted so little from the Sequel Trilogy. One of those things was seeing a tranquil and at peace Luke Skywalker training a student. We all know what we got. Thankfully, Disney+ delivered on that 7/10ths of a decade later. I didn't need to see Luke as an action hero. I didn't need to see him as a near invulnerable demigod. I just needed to see him at peace, confident and wise. I am so thankful that moment has finally come.

That aspect aside, the heart strings were tugged in so many ways. The bond between Din Djarin and Grogu is palpable. For my money, Mando is now the face of Star Wars. He represents the audience. A grounded character that is witness to all the fantastic events in the Star Wars universe. I didn't think it was possible, but this character has more deeply rooted me in Star Wars than anything else. That shouldn't be possible at my advanced age.

I also absolutely love the tease at the relationship between Ahsoka and Luke. This:

I can't take credit for that particular observation. I have to thank Star Wars Meg for pointing that out. If you don't subscribe to her channel, why not? It's some of the best Star Wars content. Ahsoka is being positioned as Luke's surrogate mother, and I love it.

As far as the other events of the episode:

That scene could not have been better constructed even if Disney reanimated the corpse of Orson Wells and fused it with the DNA of Sergio Leone and Akira Kurosawa.

Accusations of recency bias be damned, Chapter 6 of The Book of Boba Fett is the best thing Disney has created under its stewardship of Star Wars, and that includes the near flawless third act of Rogue One. My only regret is that this epic series has only one more episode to go, and no matter how long it is, it will be too short.

The Book of Boba Fett is currently streaming on the Disney+ streaming service.
