This morning we published our final 30th Anniversary Collection carded figure review with the SDCC exclusive Concept Obi-Wan & Yoda. Well this is an exciting week for us here. Not only is the Hasbro Toy Fair presentation this weekend, but starting tomorrow we start our comprehensive retrospective of the The Saga Collection basic figures and multipacks. In fact, we're kicking off with the latter.
I personally love The Saga Collection. As far as a packaging motif, it's my second favorite to only the inimitable Vintage Collection. While the Legacy Collection is the second best line ever, the packaging is only mediocre. Black and silver just looks right on Star Wars. It stirs something in the soul. The full color backgrounds of The Saga Collection are also second best to the character photos in The Vintage Collection.
It's also becoming critical to document this line soon. Some of the figures are starting to yellow. TSC seems to be particularly susceptible to this, more so than most other modern lines. I was horrified when I saw that the torso on my carded sample of Commander Cody has yellowed so significantly that it looks like a candy corn. You'll see when we get to that figure. Well, I hope you'll see it. The large AMC Pacer-esque bubbles are a nightmare to photograph, and I can't completely eliminate the light glare.
Another great thing about The Saga Collection is that it burned up the cash registers at retail. Retailers wanted so much TSC product that Hasbro had to tack on TWENTY TWO repacks and repaints at the end of the line to keep up with demand. TSC also featured what many, to this day, consider the best SDCC presentation ever. Product we had previously though impossible, like the Death Star Briefing set, was announced. What a time in the hobby. We hope you are looking forward to this retrospective as much as we are.

I LOVED the source color coding in the upper left of the cards.
