We need to start with the usual preface. Strike that. Prefaces. First, the global logistics crisis is not the fault of Hasbro, nor any other manufacturer. It's simply a fact of life in 2022. It's the proverbial turd sandwich from which we all must take a bite (but I really would like to know why it seems to be hitting the US harder than anyone else). Second, we realize that the the global logistics crisis is affecting things much more important than frivolous adult collectibles, but we don't write about those things. We write about the Vintage Collection and Vintage Collection related things, so that's what we're going to do.
I've used the plate spinning analogy to describe the hobby in the past. If you don't know what I'm talking about when I say "plate spinning", it's this silly act that was somehow once a thing:
Keeping engagement in the hobby alive is a lot like those spinning plates. If some external force doesn't come along every once in a while to keep the momentum going, they will eventually crash to the ground. With respect to any collection, that "external force" is new acquisitions.
We've just gone five months between waves of the Vintage Collection, and I have to admit it's causing me to lose a little oomph for the hobby. Is it just me? I don't sense that it is because I feel a degree of melancholy settling in over the community. I'm also noticing that a lot of recent Vintage Collection offerings are not selling out, and are frequently going on sale (some of which are deep price cuts). It's probably the totality of everything going on in the world right now, but I'm starting to worry for TVC.
