Day 1 saw a couple of upsets and had some very slim margins. What will the second day of voting bring? Probably a bunch of Bad Batch characters. But, hey, anything is possible, right?
Wrecker vs Aunt Beru
Mamma Mia! Here we go again. This is what happens when a very movable object goes up against an unstoppable force. Aunt Beru is the University of New Haven winning their conference and drawing Duke in the first round. She should just be happy to have made the dance.
Darth Malak vs Omega
This will be an interesting matchup between a Bad Batch principal and a popular Sith Lord. Malak has had a figure before, but even upon release it seemed below standard and certainly doesn’t hold up to its recently-updated companion piece Revan. But Omega is necessary to ever complete the crew, and Bad Batch voters certainly have a history of showing up here.
General Grievous vs Mon Mothma (ROTJ)
A classic battle of leaders here, with the leader of the CIS vs the leader of the Rebel Alliance. Certainly Grievous is obviously more action-oriented than Mon Mothma, but our one and only OT Mothma figure was a POTF cake-topper. So who will have the bigger draw? A 4-armed lightsaber-wielding cyborg? Or an older lady in a white dress? I know who I'm picking.
Mon Mothma (Andor) vs Bix Caleen
The fact that two different versions of Mon Mothma made a bracket for action figure toys is patently ridiculous. Andor version has a lot more potential than the ROTJ one for different kinds of displays (assuming they ever make anything else from Andor). Bix definitely has more action potential and is one of many frustrating gaps in our Andor collections.
Those advocating for more Andor figures are likely bummed to see this matchup so early but the good news is that one of them is guaranteed to move on to the next round. Personally, I’m really pulling for a hilarious Mon Mothma vs Mon Mothma showdown in round 2.
Kleya Marki vs Galactic Marine
Kleya Marki was one of the breakout stars of Andor season 2 and more than one of her costumes received nomination support. But her first round opponent here is a popular PT army builder that is badly in need of an update. With Luthen already advancing to the second round, we may see an Andor wave boost some others. The Marine is one of the only on-screen army builders that made the cut, but seems destined to wait until the Geonosis focus has passed.
Clone Commando vs Supreme Leader Kylo Ren
Most clones wear underpants, but these guys just let it all hang out in their armor. That gives them the freedom of movement necessary to participate in special operations. I guess. A Kylo Ren beyond the underwhelming TFA version has had a steady (if not high) demand for several years.
A new Commando sculpt could unlock various repaints for people who like that sort of thing, but not advancing Kylo Ren risks setting him off on a destructive temper tantrum. Do we really want to be responsible for that?
Endor Rebel Commando vs Ki-Adi-Mundi
The Endor Rebel Commando is an O96 army builder that is badly in need of an update, and Ki-Adi-Mundi is a popular Jedi (and possible jerk) who hasn’t had a proper figure in almost 20 years.
While Ki-Adi seems like a no-brainer for this year’s Battle of Geonosis theme, the same could be said about the ERC back in 2023 when we got the bunker and new Speederbike but a conspicuous lack of further support. So here we are, once again, playing chicken with Hasbro on figures that should definitely already be in the works.
Tech vs. Baniss Keeg
Another Bad Batch baddie faces off here against a cantina patron that some people might think already exists. Duros aren’t the most exciting alien, but in the wake of Arleil and Labria being announced Baniss was one of the patrons to gain some support. Facing Tech in round one is a tough draw unless Baniss can successfully carry the Cantina banner.
