Amid reports that Disney and Lucasfilm were struggling with crafting a mass audience acceptable Boba Fett movie (booooo!), The Inquisitor reports that Metalocalypse director John Schnepp confirmed that the Boba Fett movie is not only going forward, but that it has been written by Lawrence Kasdan and is already in pre-production.

The official Star Wars YouTube channel has started uploading the documentary From Star Wars to Jedi: The Making of a Saga which features rare behind-the-scenes footage of the making of the Original Trilogy and is narrated by Mark Hamill.  Part 1 of 9 has been uploaded thus far.

This is pretty exciting to me, but I doubt this will still be available by the time I get home from work.  I hate the prequel trilogy as a whole and I cannot overstate that.  But I do think the broad strokes of the plot are decent and I very much enjoy segments of each movie.  This story could easily have been told in a single move, and now an industrious editor has done just that (with a lot less Jar Jar):

There is a Kickstarer crowd funding campaign afoot for the post production of what looks like a fascinating documentary on the extras in Star Wars called Elstree 1976.  There are some pretty impressive perks for various contribution levels including a Jeremy Bulloch signed screen accurate Boba Fett helmet.  If you are not sucked in by the preview below, get out!  Get out now!

We were first alerted to this news bit by forum moderator Duke.  Bob Iger has confirmed that three Star Wars spin-offs are being planned which supposedly don’t tie into narrative of the sequel trilogy.  Unfortunately, the subject matter of two of the three films is rumored to be young Han Solo and young Yoda with a Boba Fett movie completing the trifecta.

Am I the only one that cringes at the “young” prospects.  Did the PT teach us nothing that taking characters all the way back to being zygotes complete destroys the mystery of these characters that made them fan favorites in the first place.  I’m shocked to say this, but I definitely might be skipping these movies in the theater if the subject mater comes to fruition.

If you need a 21st century smoke break (read:  internet break) while at work today, I highly suggest taking a gander at this well written and informative article from Film School Rejects.  It’s part Hollywood history lesson and part Star Wars history lesson that really sheds light on the business of movie making today and the near 360 degree promotion of tent pole movies. Some of the links they provide are worth checking out too.

There is a rumor that LucasFilm is struggling with crafting a space where Boba Fett can be the “hero” of his own spin-off movie considering his allegiances with both gangsters and Sith.  Perhaps LucasFilm should walk across the aisle to their studio cousins at Marvel who have mastered the art of the anti-hero.

While avoiding anything definitive, Simon Kinberg says that the Expanded Universe is not off-limits for the Star Wars spin-off movies.

LadyFerry dropped us a line with this interesting tip.  There are placeholders for the 3D Blu-ray discs for all six Star Wars movies on Amazon UK.  These don’t appear on the US Amazon portal.

I think Ms. Portman may have come up with the quote of the century regarding the foundry chase.

Screen Crush has posted cool behind scenes photos of some of the aliens roaming around Mos Eisley during Episode IV including one alien I hope never gets made into an action figure.

The official YouTube channel posted a pretty fascinating featurette on the birth of the lightsaber which actually touches on the evolution of the combat styles.  Though when taking the prequel trilogy into account, you’d have to say it was a devolution first.

I find this rumor incredibly hard to believe, but it comes from the well connected blokes at Jedi News, so it can’t be dismissed.  According to them, all six movies will get a digital release in November.  Maybe this is a UK thing and not meant for the states.  I thought Disney put a kibosh on this stuff.

The site Original Props Blog has acquired 237 sand of previously unpublished Lucas Archives photographs taken circa 1996/1997.  Now we have even more ammunition to nitpick the accuracy of action figures!

According to Latino Review, Pixar may be getting its own Star Wars sandbox to play in. From my perspective this seems hugely risky.  It could just as easily weaken the overall brand as it could be something fresh and brilliant.
