According to a press release, “‘Star Wars Rebels’ takes place in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape.”  The hour-long pilot will premiere on the Disney channel, with the series airing on Disney XD. Dave Filoni (the Clones Wars animated series), Simon Kinberg (X-Men: First Class, Sherlock Holmes) and Greg Weisman (Young Justice and The Spectacular Spider-Man) are Executive Producers on the series.

No real word on what it is, or when it will take place, but…it’s something.

The official site confirms the status of the Clone Wars as well as a “New Direction” for Lucasfilm Animation in which the are “exploring a whole new Star Wars series set in a time period previously untouched in Star Wars films or television programming”.
