WARNING: This is a plot summary of the short story, spoilers ahead:
On Alderaan, Breha Organa is worried. The Senate was just dissolved and she has been waiting for her husband and daughter to return from their respective missions. She had been trying desperately to reach someone, but no luck. Her attendants, humans and droids alike, were constantly fussing, looking for guidance on this task, that appearance, or some other order of business. Breha just couldn't be bothered. She had called the port captain repeatedly, looking for news on her husband's arrival, and with every passing moment, became more concerned. Suddenly, Bail had arrived. He wanted to surprise Breha, so he had told the port officer not to say anything. Breha was incredibly relieved, but after a tender moment, Bail was visibly shaken. Not about the Senate, but because he needed to deliver the news that Leia was missing, and presumed dead with the reported destruction of the Tantive IV.
Breha and Bail spend the next two days calling in every resource and pulling every string and favor to get more concrete information about their daughter. Suddenly, reports came in of something having entered orbit, but the communications were quickly scrambled. Bail and Breha rushed outside, and saw an unnaturally quick eclipse occurring before their eyes. Bail knew what it was: the planet killer. They held each other, and as a blinding beam of light surged across the sky, they looked at each other and shared their last hopes as they embraced: they knew their daughter was still alive.
