Rogue Squadron Delayed Indefinitely Over Creative Differences

Just under a year ago, Lucasfilmm unloaded a cornucopia of media announcements during Disney Investor Day. While most of the announcements were for the small screen, to include the already aired Bad Batch and Visions, there was one big screen announcement, Patti Jenkins' Rogue Squadron. Of all the announcements, that was the one to which I was most looking forward. The space battles are my favorite part of Star Wars.

So it was natural that I was disappointed when Collider reported last week that Roque Squadron was delayed due to conflicts with Patti Jenkins' busy schedule, which includes Wonder Woman 3. Now Collider is reporting that the project is being delayed due to creative differences. They write:

Former Hollywood Reporter editor Matthew Belloni published in his newsletter that what's really holding up the project is that Jenkins and Lucasfilm executives could not agree on a script for the long-gestating film.

Collider further quotes Belloni as saying:

Jenkins wasn’t willing to [mess] around, and she has other projects, notably Wonder Woman 3 at Warner Bros., where she enjoys more creative freedom.

While the Disney+ side of Star Wars seems to be running like a finely tuned machine as we eagerly await The Book of Boba Fett next month, it seems like this is an epidemic with the movies. There has been a conflict with the creatives on every single one, with the exception of The Last Jedi. I have to say in Disney's defense, you can't exactly give free reign to each writer/director and still try to maintain a coherent cinematic universe. I could quickly turn into the jumbled mess that was the old Expanded Universe. Perhaps the solution is to follow the model of The Mandalorian and hire lesser known directors who might not feel the need to put their individual stamp on the brand.
