We know Hasbro loves a good repaint. Obviously, they get most value out of their tooling, and if those repaints are successful, it likely would result in a higher budget for the next thing. Repaints are common not just for figures, but for vehicles as well. We've seen this a few times so far during this lovely jaunt through my collection, most recently with the Republic Gunships which had 7 versions - although there were definitely some fairly significant sculpting tweaks along the way.

Among the most repainted vehicles in the history of the line are three models of on-screen Jedi Starfighters. There is the Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptor (AOTC), the Delta-7B Aethersprite-class light interceptor (TCW), and the Eta-2 Actis-class light interceptor (ROTS). Each one was repainted and released multiple times over the years, along with a few unique starfighters and accessories sprinkled in.

First up is the OG Jedi Starfighter, Obi-Wan's from AOTC. This was a super cool vehicle design that got plenty of screen time, when Obi-Wan travelled first to Tipoca City on Kamino, and then got to see it in action during the dogfight above Geonosis. The on screen design was simple, elegant, and aggressive looking - all perfect for Hasbro to convert to toy form. The toy itself is a perfect size for display on a shelf, with a low and narrow profile - unlike the larger "BMF" TIE Fighters and X-Wings. The cockpit has enough room for an Obi-Wan figure, pop out wings and expanding stabilizers, firing missiles, and retractable landing gear. It includes the rotating dome of the associated astromech co-pilot, since the thin nature of the design didn't accommodate a full droid body. As such, the domes of the droids were built into the starfighter itself.

Hasbro released 5 different paint schemes for this ship, as well as a re-release of Obi-Wan (with some paint differences) that was included with the Hyperspace Ring. This ring was the only one released in the line, as it was never repainted for any of the other paint schemes. Notable is the fact that one of the releases is not specific to any Jedi, and includes the dome of R2-C4, an astromech that exists in canon as a member of the Royal Naboo Security Forces and can be seen in the Theed Hangar. Hasbro also decided to make full droid figures of 4/5 of these astromechs, with the lone exception being the unnamed droid (possibly R3-D5?) dome that came with Saesee Tiin's starfighter.

In Gentry Tartakovsky's Clone Wars, Anakin Skywalker flew a heavily modified "hot rod" version of the Delta 7. Hasbro made this ship, including the dome of R4-P22 (which was never released as a full action figure. It was a one off, and one of the more interesting designs in the line. In the cartoon, Anakin flew this ship throughout the clone wars, but it was destroyed, along with R4-P22) while parked on Yavin 4 during a duel with Asajj Ventress.

The Delta 7B was an evolutionary step forward for the Delta 7, and was flown extensively during The Clone Wars. This time, the design accommodated a complete astromech droid. As such, several Jedi had their trusty Delta 7 droid domes retrofitted with full bodies, so they could keep them as co-pilots in their new rides. For whatever reason, Plo Koon had a different droid for his 7B, named R7-D4. Plo Koon was actually flying his OG Delta 7 during the Battle of Cato Nemoidia when Order 66 was issued. The ship, along with himself and R4-F5, were shot down. Kit Fisto also got a new droid for his 7B, leaving behind R4-H5, and upgrading to R6-H5.

Hasbro tooled up a 7B, and then released 5 additional repaints. This ship can hold a full astromech in the center slot, has firing missiles, has a retractable ventral cannon that doubles as landing gear, and the ship splits in two so the astromech can fly separately for reasons. Interestingly, when split, the main ship with the Jedi pilot looks somewhat similar in design to the Eta 2 starfighter. Of the 6 releases, Hasbro produced 4 astromech droids to fit into the corresponding sockets. Mace Windu flew a 7B during the Clone Wars, which was included in the "Rise of Boba Fett" battle pack back in 2012. This huge pack included the BMF Slave I (painted as Jango's), Mace Windu's 7B, and 5 figures in animated styling. Included in this set of 5 was R8-B7, which Hasbro never updated in realistic sculpting. Hasbro also never produced Kit Fisto's R6-H5.

Conspicuously absent from the photos is Ahsoka's 7B. Somehow, I completely missed this release. Sadly, I'm going to have to drop serious coin to get this from Ebay. We have Ahoska from this era, as well as her droid, R7-A7. Embarrassingly, this droid was never released in the collector line, but an excellent version was produced during the Great 5POA "Retirement Vaulting" of 2020 when it was included in a Celebrate the Saga "Jedi Order" 5-pack. The figure (which may be a straight re-release or slight repaint) is set to be included in the upcoming Vintage Collection Escape From Order 66 4-Pack.

Last but not least, we have the Eta 2 Actis-class light interceptor. This ship has a removable astromech "torso" (unfortunately, while the on-screen ship can hold a full droid, the toy cannot), retractable landing gear, firing missiles, and pop out wing stabilizers. Once again, we got an OG color scheme (two, actually, as Hasbro's simultaneous ROTS launch day releases of Obi-Wan's and Anakin's ships). Later, we got 2 repaints to represent both of their second rides in the film, since both of the originals were destroyed during the Battle of Coruscant. Obi-Wan lost R4-P17 during the Battle of Coruscant, so he took R4-G9 as his co-pilot in his new blue ride. Meanwhile, by the time Anakin flew with R2-D2 on his new green ship, he had already turned to The Dark Side. Anakin/Darth Vader flew the ship to Mustafar where he killed the CIS leadership. Hasbro also released versions for Aayla Secura and Mace Windu, while also painting a black/grey version with Imperial markings for post-Mustafar Darth Vader.

Below is a comprehensive list of all the Jedi Starfighters and their appropriate Jedi/Astromech pairings. In my haste to take these images, I couldn't find my R7-D4 for Plo Koon's Delta 7B (it came with the TBS375 Entertainment Earth Astromech Exclusive pack and I forgot to include Ahsoka's R7-A7 in the main shot (but I added an extra pic at the end of the gallery.)
