[Note:  Since this figure is a repaint of the VC126 - Imperial Assault Tank Driver figure, we’re going to copy the articulation specifics from that review and include it here.]

Editor’s Note:  The following text is copied from the review of VC126 with some edits to make it specific to this Tank Commander figure:

When posing this figure, something caught me somewhat by surprise in a negative way.  The armor on the calves of the figure limits the range of motion of the knee articulation which stop well before a 90 degree bend.  Since this figure’s primary job is to stand looking out the Assault Tank’s top hatch, this articulation limitation doesn’t condemn the figure.  It’s only limits the figure when posing it outside of the tank in action poses.  That is a bit frustrating, but not as damning as it would be on other action-oriented figures.  The articulation on the rest of the figure is what you would expect in the current landscape.  Ball-jointed wrists and hips plus an upper thigh swivel elevate the figure above standard super-articulation.  I believe the kids call this “plaid” articulation.  The ball-jointed hips are somewhat undone by the aforementioned lack of range at the knees.  The ball-jointed wrists, however, allow for varied and natural looking combat poses.  It is somewhere between difficult and impossible to position the floating trigger finger inside the trigger guard.  Instead, the trigger finger typically sits along side the trigger guard.

Editor’s Note:  The following commentary is specific to this VC148 release:

One thing for which I dinged the previous Tank Driver figure was the fact that the dirt wash on the body and helmet were distractingly inconsistent.  The helmet on that figure was largely pristine with a few small blotches of dirt, while the body was heavily dirty.  This time around, the helmet has received more of a dirt wash and displays better consistency with the body.  The distinguishing “commander” markings appear in four places.  There are a series of four dark gray boxes across the upper chest just below the straps that connect the front and back halves of the torso armor.  The figure’s right shoulder is painted in the same gray, and the left shoulder is also painted gray, but it’s bordered by two thin black lines.  Finally at the bottom of the upper torso, there is a red “L”-shaped line and a red box.  All of these details are cleanly and precisely applied.  Considering how fine some of the lines are, this is a commendable feat, and give the figure move of a “premium” feel compare to the somewhat stark decoration of its forerunner.  I gave the Tank Driver figure an 8 out of 10, but for these reasons, I feel the Tank Commander figure deserves a slightly better store, and thus nets a 9 out of 10.

Between both the Commander and Driver, the Imperial Combat Assault Tank itself, and the awesome new VC140 - Stormtrooper, Hasbro is really allowing us to build up the Imperial side of the Battle of Jedha City, and it’s why I absolutely love the 3.75” scale.  I can display all these pieces in context, and in an action display, without having to repurpose a conference table to do so.  This is why I collect.  Again, I love it.  Of course, we’re sorely lacking in the other half of the battle.  Maybe we’ll get super articulated versions of Saw’s rebels some day.  One last tidbit from the VC126 review what I want to quote here:

Of course, once you have this [Tank Driver] figure in hand, you’re going to be frustrated that you don’t have the tank commander figure, especially since that character is more prominent in the movie.  But in an environment where if feels like we’re hardly getting any figures, if Hasbro used a spot in TVC for that minor repaint of this figure, I’d lose my mind.  There are three minor trooper repaints we’re missing from Rogue One.  In addition to the Tank Commander, we need the Shoretrooper (Scarif Stormtrooper) Squad Leader and Captain.  I’ll be a monkey’s uncle if those three minor repaints/retools don’t represent the perfect three pack.

Oh well.  Can’t win them all.
