Probably the fan favorite character from Rogue One, we have Hasbro’s only 3.75” scale offering of K-2SO.  Let’s see if 5POA OK for K-2SOA, A$AP Rocky.  (That one was for the kids.)

No, Randy, 5POA is not OK.  But, this figure is not 5POA.  Hold on to your pants, it’s 6POA!  That’s right.  So far, in our journey through the 5POA line, only the horrific Sergeant Jyn Erso (Eadu) weighs in with more POA’s, at an astonishing 7!  Astonishing because of the wasted effort.  Any other figure could have used the extra arm articulation, notably Chirrut Îmwe, who would, at least to a passing degree, be able to strike an action pose with a two-handed weapon grip.  It could have also been used for K-2SO, so he could do stuff like, better grip the backpack in the pic above.

K-2SO is an excellent looking figure.  The sculpt is great, the paint applications are simple but effective, with a little bit of metallic wear around the joints.  Yes, this is ironic since the joints don’t actually do…joint stuff, but it’s an effective look.  His face, again sparsely painted, has an amazing amount of personality.  That could just be because the character was so fun, I’m imagining a tiny Alan Tudyk tucked inside the figure, manipulating it like the Great Oz.  The figure towers over normal sized figures, but particularly over the diminutive Jyn, which works perfectly.

The real interest in the toy, though, is the articulation.  First, the shoulders and hips, which account for 4 of the POA’s, are not standard swivel joints.  They are a basic ball and socket, which, to a minor degree, allows for some additional movement.  It’s not really that clear how effective this is, other than maybe adding touch more personality to the figure.  The legs will splay outward if you put the figure in a seated position, which is kind of silly.  The arms have just a slight amount of give inward or outward.  You can get a hint of this with the difference between images 8 and 9 in the gallery.  It’s nothing mind-blowing, but I’d like to believe the extra effort gave us…something more.  I’m just not sure what.

The shining star of the figure is the head, which comes with two neck joints (POA’s 5 and 6).  There’s a ball and socket at the top of the torso, and one at the base of the head.  Essentially, the neck is a separate piece that looks like a dumbbell.  This allows for a great range of motion that are perfectly executed, and bring this figure to life in a way that I did not expect.  The head shots in the gallery should give you the idea about how the head moves, allowing the droid to give off the impression of multiple expressions and emotions.  It’s very well done.  K-2SO can even do “Night at the Roxbury.”

The only accessory is a giant retractable claw thing.  The claw itself is attached to the weapon base with a spring loaded string.  I like the idea of it more than I actually like it.  Maybe it would have been better executed with a manually operated string, like the one that came with Bodhi Rook’s accessory.

It’s a cool looking figure, and while a super-articulated version is towards the top of my want list, I will have to honestly say that this figure not only does its job, it does it well, and better than I expected.  Nice job all around, better than average for the line, and extra credit for the neck articulation.
