It took a little while, but Bodhi Rook was the last figure needed to complete the (5POA) Rogue One strike team. While most of them are not super-articulated, at least you can stand them at attention on your shelf, because every one of the team members were known to excel at following military protocols.
Bodhi meets the baseline for 5POA, although my sample had a bit of a lean. He’s got a good sculpt, with the requisite folds to the loose-fitting jumpsuit. He has a reasonably detailed vest, which, as a big plus, is removable. The uniform has a few metal doo-dads painted on, and has crisp Imperial shoulder emblems. The face is an average-at-best sculpt, with only a passing likeness to Riz Ahmed. The paint applications make him look cartoonishly angry, when Bodhi was generally frightened, nervous, or worried throughout most of his mission. Bodhi has goggles sculpted onto his forehead, while it would have elevated the figure nicely if the goggles were a separate piece. It also would have elevated the figure IF IT WAS SUPER ARTICULATED, but whatever, man.
As for accessories, he holds his blaster well, although a holster would have been nice (but not screen accurate). When we saw the first images of this Bodhi Rook figure out of NYCC 2016, Rogue One hadn’t been released yet. Most collectors assumed the backpack contraption was some maniacal Hasbro contrivance. Of course we know that it’s a pretty screen accurate cable spooler that Bodhi used to complete his part of the mission on Scarif to open up the communications relay to the Rebel Alliance. The backpack fits well, and the working spooler coils the string neatly and easily. It turned out to be a solid accessory.
The figure gets points for a removable vest and and good accessories, although it loses a point for an uncharacteristic angry face. But I give it a bonus point because he’s the guy who gives the movie its name, and because Riz Ahmed is awesome. Have you watched The Night Of? It also has Omar from The Wi-ah, so you’re doing yourself a disservice if you haven’t seen it.
