Chirrut Îmwe may have been the most popular Rogue One member, behind K-2SO. He may be blind, but he is one with The Force, and The Force is with him. Can 5POA do him justice?
Chirrut is nicely sculpted all around. The robes have variations in texture, and look natural all around. The face sculpt is a pretty good Donnie Yen for this scale. The paint is applied fairly well all around, with very little overspray. The face is very good, with the blind eyes, and the hair painted nearly flawlessly. The shoulder/belt/cape combo is sculpted separately, and is actually removable, should you want an alternative display option.
The staff is sculpted and painted with sufficient detail. Here is where the sadness comes into play. Because of the 5POA nature of the figure, it can merely hold the staff in either hand. He cannot wield it in a meaningful two-handed grip. Wrist or forearm articulation would help. I mean, only Hasbro knows why they bothered with extra arm articulation for that horrendous Jyn Erso (Eadu). They could have costed that out for Chirrut, and we could have had a superior budget figure (but still not OK, Randy). Almost maddeningly, Hasbro went for a large accessory that is a cartoony version of Chirrut’s actual bowcaster. Instead, we get some nonsense. It would have made me feel better if it was a neon pink rocket launcher.
So where does that leave us? A solid basic 5POA figure that does its job. But we desperately need Chirrut in super-articulated form. The “action” shots above just leave me wanting a much better figure. It’s pretty good, but it will leave an empty hole in your heart.
