Oooooh, ‘member toys?  Yeah, yeah, I ‘member toys.  We used to collect Star Wars toys.  The figures didn’t always bear uncanny resemblance to their on-screen counterparts.  They certainly didn’t have articulation at all the major bendy parts of the human body, but what they often did have were one or more play features.  Then we said, NO!  You will not ruin our high end adult collectibles with this nonsense.  These are not toys.  They are highly posable action figures.  As the name indicates, these are to be posed and admired never to be used as playthings.  The less touching involved the better to keep them as pristine as possible.  We certainly don’t want them being touched by children’s hands, with three meals and several snacks worth of accumulated stickiness.

If you think I am taking a mocking tone with you, my fellow adult collector, I am not.  I like where the line is today.  I like highly detailed and highly posable action figures, but the fact remains that we pulled the line to such an extreme direction as to make it less accessible for kids.  And I don’t shed a tear for those kids.  They have their Chinpokomons and Zuzu’s Petals and Sega Dreamcasts.  Leave Star Wars figures where they belong:  in the hands of middle aged collectors.

This Jango Fett figure is a callback to that previous era when the Kingdom of Men and the halflings collected the same exact line.  It’s loaded with playability and short on articulation.  I have to admit.  It’s kind of fun.  One thing that struck me is that it is preposed in the exact type of semi-crouch that I want all my pistoleer figures to be able to achieve.  So while I knock this figure for its lack of articulation, I will also knock any super articulated gunslinger figure that can’t achieve this figure’s pose.  I admit that’s partly insane.  It makes me feel as maniacal with action figures as Mr. Pitt was with socks.  In short, I want it all.

This release is a repaint of the same figure from 2002, which was two years removed from the Power of the Jedi line.  Those were a big two years for Hasbro. They went from having “one working holster” money to “two working holsters” money.  Good for them.  The twin holsters work very well, which is something that is both notable for a 2002 sculpt and something that is appreciated by collectors of all ages.  The true rocket firing jet pack is also a play feature that doesn’t offend the adult collector sensibility as a realistic non-firing rocket can also be used instead of the javelin-liked firing one.  The removable helmet, on the other hand, doesn’t work as well.  The proportions of the helmet are off, and the head underneath is undersized.  It gives the figure a peahead appearance.

The one play feature on this figure that absolutely does not work for the adult collector is claw on the figure’s right gauntlet.  It’s supposed to represent the Fett armor fibercord whip. The actual item is stealthily concealed somewhere in the armor.  This feature on the figure conspicuously spools on the figure’s arm like it’s a sailor coiling the docking line. The unsightliness of this feature has always bothered me with this sculpt.

I will say that for the western double draw down pose, this figure works, and I can’t dismiss that.  It’s the reason I’m giving this figure a respectable 5 out of 10.
