The other day we reviewed the Geonosian War Chamber (1 o 2). So naturally we now will review the oddly named Geonosian War Room (2 of 2). Something’s not always right in the head with them Hasbro folks. For whatever reason, the pair of sets were given different names. But they are synonymous, to be sure. I enjoyed Harry Potter and the Room of Secrets. And as I write this while reclining in my bed chamber, I ponder the incredible athletic feat of Wilt Roomlain dropping a cool 100 on The Knickerbockers of New York in 1962.
Nute Gunray
Ol’ Nute Gunray was there from the beginning of the events of the Prequel Trilogy, and his TPM figure from 1999 was neat for the time, but is obviously sadly outdated today - not to mention the unfortunate sculpting and placement of his right hand. For AOTC, where he spends most of his screen time being a jerk in his arena sky box, Hasbro decided that the existing mold was good enough, and gave him a new head sculpt and new outer robes to cover up the repurposed base figure - with the same idiot hand. It’s still a terrible figure, but most of you terrible collectors out there will be happy because all he does is stand there. We very much need new Nute Gunray figures. In fact, we don’t have anything from ROTS, so it’s a real miss for one of the main Separatist leaders who survived the PT until the very end. If Hasbro put some work into a modern Gunray body, they could take a page from this figure’s book, and do 3 headsculpts and three different robes, and you’ve got yourself a Nute Triple Play. Then all he needs is the same treatment for his buddy Rune, who didn’t even get an AOTC figure. 4/10. Hasbro owes Mr. Gunray a better effort.
Shu Mai
Shu Mai can be seen briefly during the “secret” meeting on Geonosis where Dooku essentially establishes the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Shu Mai is present, along with her aide, Cat Miin. She can be seen again standing near the This figure looks pretty good, but again is a simple 5POA specimen that fails in 2020. Mine also struggles to stand upright. In 2005, Hasbro took this sculpt and repainted it to represent Cat Miin. A fiery lightsaber slash mark is painted on her chest to simulate the moment Darth Anakin slices her and her comrades to death on Mustafar. So technically, that figure cannot be placed at Shu Mai’s side on Geonosis, because it would be weird and your friends would laugh at you. Shu Mai needs an upgrade, but the priority is negligible. 5/10 because it exists.
Passel Argente
Passel Argente can barely be seen, but he’s there at the Geonosis Council and at the subsequent battle planning. Like his set mates, it’s a pretty lame figure. Again, it looks nice just standing there, but it doesn’t exactly put the “action” in “action figure.” Hasbro repainted Mr. Argente in 2005. Just like Cat Miin, he sports a brandy new lightsaber mortal wound, and repainted to better represent his appearance in ROTS. It’s the same mold, and so both are kind of terrible, but it gets a 5 for merely existing. Another Passel Argente figure is even far less likely then the J-E-T-S Jets! Jets! Jets! winning a game this year.
Holographic Table (half)
No need to rehash the review from the 1st set. In a nutshell, it’s underscaled, but a nice set piece for your displays that show off the Separatist Leaders as the lead their people to be separate. 6/10.
Set
Overall, the set is dated, but it’s your only way to get any of these three characters, at least in Hasbro’s interpretation of their AOTC colors. The half of the table obviously matches with the other set and gives you the complete round table.
