Here’s a fun fact for you:  100% of our members from Spain call her simply “blue girl”.  You know her better as Aayla Secura.  Through the first three figures of this wave, we have three fantastic figures, and this one might be the best.  We’ll start off with my only complaint about this figure:  that blasted force hand.  It makes effective two-handed saber poses challenging and looks goofy once achieved.  At one point, I feared it would undermine the figure, but with a little patience it became workable.

Aside from that, it was one of the rare times when I actually had fun photographing the figure.  The plentiful articulation works fluidly and achieving dynamic poses is a snap. The ball jointed hips on some of the male figures can detract from the aesthetics of the figure.  In the case of Aayla Secura, the figure merely looks womanly.  If we did half grades, I would give this figure a 9.5 because of the wonky force hand.  But we don’t, so I’m going to round up.  10 out of 10.

It’s a fun figure, with tons of posability options.  It’s got a great center of gravity, so it can stand in a variety of positions that most others can’t. Previous versions of Aayla were generally very good, getting upgrades along the way, until we have this one, which is pretty much definitive.  The robe isn’t nearly as monstrous as has been the case with many other Jedi.  It’s still not perfect (it almost never is) but it works well with this figure.  The only thing that might add to the figure’s dynamism would be ball jointed wrists, but since the character has a bare arm, that articulation couldn’t be hidden well, so it’s just as well to sacrifice the posability for the aesthetics.

One note about the cardback art.  It’s from ROTS, but since Aayla did not change her appearance between AOTC and ROTS, including in The Clone Wars animated series.  As such, this is pretty much the only outfit she wears, and so it’s basically the only Aayla figure you will ever need, no matter what diorama setting you may choose to display her.

The figure’s sculpt and paint detailing are outstanding.  Mine has a bit of a lazy eye, which I only really noticed when I was doing closeup imagery for this gallery.  From a reasonably distance, the face appears to be painted beautifully.

Chris’s review still holds today, but we both discussed the Force Hand issue, and decided to round down to a 9.  THWG is just too darn important.  While the Force-y hand is cool on it’s own, it’s better for most Jedi figures to have gripping hands in order to achieve more dynamic battle poses.  While it is still the only real negative on this figure, we’re going to drop it to a 9, just to make the point if Hasbro is looking at this.

Hasbro:  We prefer our Jedi figures to have both hands sculpted to grip their lightsabers…unless you’re able to include switch out alternate hands.

Verdict: No Action

Ebay Prices are actually moderate to high, but unless Hasbro opts to move forward with some prequel Jedi-themed product push, we need to be happy with this Aayla Secura figure.  If it is ever revisited, this sculpt should suffice for a long time.

Verdict Guide:
Re-sculpt = The figure is not definitive, and a new version should be developed.
Re-issue = This version is definitive (or close enough), and shows sufficient secondary market demand to warrant a straight repack.
No Action = This release does not require new attention.
