Editor’s Note: This review has been updated with our second look at TVC…

This repack is nothing new, but it’s still a good figure, and probably the best ROTS Obi-Wan available. The sculpt is decent, the paint simple but effective. The cloak is oversized, as usual. He’s got a hilt that pegs into his waist and a lit saber he can hold in one or both hands. He also comes with a headset for his starfighter, which fits a little too loosely for my tastes. He’s got that annoying ankle joint painted a different color syndrome, but whatever. This figure lacks ball jointed hips, unlike the Anakin/Vader casemate, otherwise the range of motion is excellent.

Just about all of my figures are currently stored in those Container Store shoe boxes, organized fairly well (but far from perfectly) by movie scene as I last had them displayed about 12 years ago. I am still working on setting up a proper display space in my current home. In the meantime, for the purposes of these TVC re-shoots, I have to find the subject figure, all the included accessories, and then proper companion figures for the diorama-style shots. When it came time to do this figure, I found that I owned about 5 or 6 of them, which I thought was odd, because I don’t normally army-build non-trooper figures. Turns out this figure was released several times, going back to the initial release 5 years prior, in the Revenge of the Sith line. But while in the original review I touted it as being “probably the best ROTS Obi-Wan available,” I stumbled upon another Obi-Wan, in one of the bins I had for Utapau, from the Thirtieth Anniversary Collection. That figure is nearly the same as this one, but has ball jointed hips, and a soft goods “skirt” to allow freedom of movement. This mirrors the VC13 Anakin/Vader, so it’s interesting Hasbro didn’t release that one as VC16. As you can see from the comparison image above, that figure not only has the extra hip articulation, but the ankle joints are painted properly, and don’t stand out like they do with this figure. That would normally make it a slam dunk as superior to this one, but you then have to compare the head sculpts. Personally, I prefer this one to the TAC version. Basically, it’s a personal preference thing. Overall, I believe I would amend my earlier review and say the TAC version is the best Obi-Wan out there, and I think I would have been better for that mold to have been re-issued as VC16. The head sculpt might not be as good, but it’s a better figure, and matches the Anakin casemate figure much more seamlessly.
