Like Constable Zuvio, here’s another background alien that had a blink-and-you’ll-miss-him moment on screen. Like Zuvio, he was part of the pre-film release marketing campaign, so we thought he might have a bigger role. And, like Zuvio, it’s cool that Hasbro made him, because we should love all background aliens, and not discriminate based on the Roman numeral associated with their corresponding film. Also, he is an unlockable hero character in an upcoming DLC for Battlefront II.*
Toowers has a marginal body sculpt, but the paint applications are sloppy with quite a bit of bleeding, particularly with regard to the overalls onto the shirt. This highlights how a collector figure might have separately sculpted overalls, at least on the upper body. So the uniform, while it has some folds and texture, is a little too simply sculpted. You can also, see from the images above that the legs move forward only about 30 degrees, so he can’t really sit down. He also can’t move his legs backward at all. So to call the legs articulated is generous.
The head is the best part of the figure. It’s nicely sculpted, and painted fairly well. While the skin could have had a little more texture, the face does have noticeable personality. The head has mobility, unlike many figures in the TFA line.
Toowers comes with a small pistol that he can grip well, although unfortunately, there is no holster. The large accessory combining part doesn’t make a whole lot of sense on its own, so I just decided it was a maintenance cart, and that seems to work well enough. I know the big accessory combo thing was a gimmick to get you to buy more figures, this was still a miss for Hasbro, because he should have had a fuel hose. It’s part of the card art image, and a little creativity could have yielded a plastic hose that would be interactive with whatever off-screen 3-piece contraption Hasbro spawned.
No, 5POA is not OK, but this figure is decent for what it is. It’s a background alien, and while Toowers can still be found at some stores in my area, it never achieved the infamy of Zuvio. The figure does its job, and while it’s not super-articulated, it could work as background fodder in any display. I’ll give it a little extra love, even though the articulation is a bit lacking.
*No he isn’t.
