These figures are the exact same as previously released basic figures, with the lone exception of the Stormtrooper Officer, which is really a basic TFA Stormtrooper, with a vest/pauldron combo that is basically not removable.
All four figures have the same Force Link chip as their basic counterparts. There is nothing new about the three straight repacks. If you want to know more about these, check out previous reviews:
I’ll spend a very little bit of time going on about the stormtrooper officer. The figure itself is identical to the basic one, which we reviewed here. There are two differences. Instead of getting two weapons, you get one. This one is different from either that came with the basic figure. It appears to essentially be a repaint of the one that came with the Black Series Captain Phasma. The other difference is the vest/pauldron combo. It’s a soft plastic number, but I was unable to work it off the figure. It may be possible, but I was afraid I would break the piece. If you were to remove it, you’d be left with a basic Stormtrooper.
That’s it. So here’s the kicker. The set retails as a Kohl’s exclusive for $49.99. It contains 4 repacks, plus a trooper vest, which really should be 4 x $7.99, with a bargain discount. I would not be offended if this set was $25-30, even though the figures therein are boring. As it was, the set was on sale this past weekend, with a couple of online discounts and free site to store shipping. I believe I got it for $23 or something close to that. Since I already own 3 of the 4 figures, it was basically a waste just to get the trooper variant.
The figures aren’t bad, it’s just that they’re not exciting, and the one variant isn’t worth the price of admission. The set gets hit for the price. The MSRP is an insult, worse than the AT-ACT, in my opinion. If you haven’t picked up any of these figures, and if you can find this set for more than 50% off like I did, and you’re in a very specific set of circumstances where you not buying it would definitely cause a nuclear holocaust, then you should at least consider it. Otherwise, move along.
