Here’s an interesting example of Hasbro simultaneously offering nearly identical figures in the 5POA and SA lines.  While we also have two Lukes with ostensibly the same outfit, any attempt at a comparison is quickly rendered moot because the soft goods on the SA figure make it very different from the full plastic of the 5POA figure.  In the case of Rose, the figures are very similar, with almost the only difference being the articulation count.

We have a figure that meets the basic requirements of 5POA.  She stands without falling, she interacts well with her accessories, and she has a good sculpt and quality paint applications.

When comparing directly to the SA figure, this Rose has some things going for her.  Some as yet unidentified tool (Yes, Jim, we know you think it looks like she’s vaping) is painted better than the tool that comes with the SA version.  I believe her face sculpt is far superior to the SA version.  The uniform detailing is nearly identical.  In the case of the SA Rose, I find the sculpting effort around the thigh articulation leaves something to be desired, as it really does look like SA Rose is wearing a diaper.

I most definitely will take the increased articulation from the Black Series figure, but I have to say, the 5POA figure wins in the overall category of aesthetics.

Hasbro may have shot itself in the foot by offering this same non army builder in both lines.  Depending on the area in which you live, you may be able to buy both figures now, or perhaps you can only find one or the other.  I think it was an odd choice by Hasbro to simultaneously offer such similar figures in both lines, and I certainly hope each doesn’t negatively impact the sales of the other.  The SA line is fragile right now, and a poorly selling SA Rose could prove to be a terrible addition to the introductory wave of TLJ figures.  There are already indications this may be happening, and it’s possible that this 5POA Rose is contributing to the problem.

One additional note:  The aurebesh on her front pocket says “GLD Landing Officer.”  It is not printed quite as clearly on this figure as it is on the Black Series version.

Anyway, the SA version is better, but this one has merit: 6.
