Tarados Gon, a Klatooinian Jedi, was part of the Jedi Strike Team that had been assembled by Mace Windu to rescue Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Padmé from Count Dooku on Geonosis.  I always thought it was neat how Lucas would throw in an alien Jedi of a species that we were previously familiar with.  In the case of the Klatooinians, most of us were probably a bit pre-disposed (alienist?) to assume that Klatooinians were good for nothing but being Jabba’s thugs.  But Gon’s creation as a Jedi character in Attack of the Clones just added to the richness of the Star Wars universe.  I think most fans, at this point, have expressed some level of disappointment that the new trilogy seems to ignore established (and often common) alien species in favor of creating new designs, that just seem superfluous.

In any case, Tarados Gon fought at Petranaki Arena.  During his moment in the “Survivors’ Circle” awaiting death upon Dooku’s order, he is wielding a green lightsaber.  Obviously an editing mistake.  He survived the events of the initial droid assault, and then was rescued from the arena by Yoda and the arriving clones.  In the old EU, Gon boarded a Republic Gunship, along with Eeth Koth and Sora Bulq.  On the way to confront the Separatist forces in the desert sands of Geonosis, that gunship was shot down.  Upon crash landing, Gon was killed, while Koth and Bulq survived. However, in the new canon, it is not clear as to his fate, although he is seemingly not mentioned at any point in other sources.

As for the figure, it’s quite good.  The sculpt is excellent, although it lacks modern “JLA” (Jedi-Level Articulation).  That’s forgiven, since he’s such a minor character.  Nevertheless, he can be posed in a variety of battle stances, including a basic THWG.  The body is typical of a Jedi figure, with the light colored robes, brown belt, and brown boots.  The face sculpt is excellent, with a paint wash that really brings out the details in the texture of his skin.  He’s got an expressive face, and is generally a fun looking figure.

Gon comes with a blue lightsaber.  As mentioned earlier, this is accurate to most of his shots, although there is an error shot in the circle where the blade is green.  Perhaps Hasbro could have included a second lightsaber with a green blade, just to be clever.  Or maybe Lucasfilm could get their act together and just update the saber to the correct color.  And it better be blue, since Hasbro already locked that down.  Beyond the lightsaber, Tarados Gon could have also included an unlit hilt, with a corresponding peg hold in the belt.  It’s forgivable in this case since he did not wear one on film, but most Jedi should also come with a robe.

Overall, it’s a nice figure that holds up well.  I’ll give it a 7. It’s not groundbreaking in any respect, and it lacks accessories.  However, it represents a definitive Tarados Gon figure, and supplies collectors with another background Jedi from the Battle of Geonosis.  Even though there are things that could improve the figure a bit, they’re not necessary given the minor nature of the character.

Tarados Gon contains the left arm for HK-47.  This murderous and snarky droid terrorized meatbags during the Old Republic Era.  Source:  Knights of the Old Republic.

Verdict: Re-issue (Very low priority)

While some modern articulation could benefit this figure, it’s basically definitive, and it wouldn’t really be necessary for Hasbro to expend any tooling budget on a new release of Tarados Gon.  However, ebay prices would indicate that this figure has some fairly strong demand, with completed auctions hovering around $50.  Perhaps if Hasbro did some kind of AOTC-based themed wave or environment set, Tarados Gon could find his way back into production.  But otherwise, it’s not a figure that should be taking up a slot right now.

Verdict Guide:
Re-sculpt = The figure is not definitive, and a new version should be developed.
Re-issue = This version is definitive (or close enough), and shows sufficient secondary market demand to warrant a straight repack.
No Action = This release does not require new attention.
