You’ve probably wondered if I’ve ever felt silly doing this as a grown man photographing things that are ostensibly toys.  Having just spent my evening photographing a Polly Pocket, yeah, I feel pretty darn silly.  I can’t in good conscience call this an action figure.  This is really an accessory pack released under the mainline action figure banner.  This isn’t the first time this has happened.  The TAC Mustafar Panning Droid was actually a pair of accessories that couldn’t be costed as such, so they became a “figure”.

Of course none of this matters.  Grogu is more popular than the Beatles, and they were more popular that a certain Nazarene. By the transitive property, we should probably start celebrating Grogu’s birthday by decorating our houses with gear shift knobs and leaving a plate of Frog Lady eggs by the chimney.  Hasbro could have put Grogu, some toenail clippings, and a used band-aid on a Vintage Collection card, and no one would be able to keep it in stock.  This is the exact type of offering that transcends the collector community, and I am 1000% in support of it.  Getting sales from beyond the hardcore collectors is a great thing for The Vintage Collection.  This will be the first TVC figure for many people, and hopefully the collecting bug strikes a few of them.  This release can help grow our ranks.  This is tangentially good for hardcore collectors, even if we have a hard time seeing $13 worth of content in the package.

I really don’t know what to say about the actual set, nor do I know how to grade it.  You get a 3 POA (points of articulation) “The Child” figure.  The arms are ball and socket.  They will pop off with only minimal force, and could be easily lost.  In ten years, Ebay will be flooded with armless Grogu figures.  The head is a reverse ball and socket joint (the ball is on the head), but it attaches securely.  Unlike the Child figure released with VC177 - Din Djarin (The Mandalorian), this one includes a peg hole on the bottom of the unibody. That means you can use stand it on the Razor Crest dashboard saving you from having to open the exclusive Nevarro Child pack-in (unless you want to open that vac metalized pram).  Also unlike the VC177 Grogu, the ears are sloping slightly downward, and the collar and cuffs of the robe are painted lighter.  Finally, this version shows more sclera on the eyes.  (The sclera is the white part, ignoramuses.) This feels less accurate to the source.

The included pram is the one used to shuttle Grogu around for the first three episodes of Season 1.  It attaches to a clear stand for a passable hovering illusion.  It’s well detailed and seems to match its on screen counterpart.  Both halves of the upper portion can be removed.  Adding only the back portion simulates the open pram, and adding both is the closed pram.  This is a nice touch.  Adding only the front portion could be used for some “just off screen” breech-loading of Grogu.  The sculpted blanket inside the pram looks a little like a chocolate dipped waffle cone…and now I want some ice cream…in a chocolate dipped waffle cone.  Thanks, Hasbro.

The final accessory is the cycloptic Sorgan frog that Grogu eats, much to the delight of the village children.  It’s out of scale with the Grogu figure.  It’s much too large, but if it were to scale, it would be microscopic.  As I wrote earlier, I have no idea how to grade this set.  It’s nothing terrific, but it’s also a case of “it is what it is”.  There’s not much that could be done with Grogu aside from being a perpetual accessory, but this is too important of a character to be relegated to accessory status.  I’m going to give it a 6 out of 10 because…Grogu!
