This is a slight repaint of the of the Kitik Keed’kak figure that was released in the Kmart Mos Eisely Cantina Screen Scene.  Nomad just reviewed that figure, which is essentially the same as this, so I’m going to quote it here.  Regarding Kitik Keed’kak he wrote:

This giant mantis-like alien can briefly be seen standing at the far end of the right side of the bar during the panning shot as Luke first surveys the cantina.  Keed’Kak is a poorly articulated figure, with effectively only 3 swivel POA’s at the shoulders and waist.  The hips do appear to have some articulation, but it is rendered useless by the plastic skirt which conceals the entire lower body.  The sculpt is pretty cool looking, but we’re left with what is almost a statue.  That was okay back in 2004, because it was exciting just to get this character as it was both a debut as well as the rescued release of the once-cancelled figure.  It was another addition to the Cantina, for which the OTC did wonders, taking us far beyond the redos of the Kenner figures to which we were (mostly) limited up to that point.

Good gravy, he should have asked me to fact check his review before it went live since I’ve been doing a lot of cantina research lately.  Had he thought to do that I would have told him that Keed’Kak can also be seen clearly in the background during the Obi-Wan and Dr. Evazan confrontation.  Also, I have a confession.  He did ask me to fact check his review, and I forgot.  But had I not, I also would have told him the the color of the figure is entirely wrong.  Kitik Keed’kak, like the mantis on which she is based, is green not brown:

This isn’t a case of something appearing one color in the behind-the-scenes documents, and another color on-screen.  She is also clearly green on-screen in A New Hope.  So it seems extremely odd that Hasbro would select this figure for repaint, and then do nothing to improve the accuracy.  It’s a painful missed opportunity.

What Hasbro did do was cast the figure in a slightly lighter brown plastic and greatly increase the highlight paint applications.  That makes this the less inaccurate of the two Kitik Keed’kak releases.  I’m keeping nomad’s original 5 score, but I’d like to have a word with him about that.  I really wish he asked me to check his review of the Kmart set before it went live.
