[Most of the images in this gallery were lifted from the recently reviewed VC16 Obi-Wan Kenobi.]

This figure originally debuted in 2005.  It was good then, and it’s still good today.  It has been released many times over the years, although sometimes the accessories are different.  In the original version from the ROTS line, the figure had a plastic robe, a hilt, a saber, and a headset.  This version is an upgrade in that it has a soft goods robe, however it drops the headset.  It does include the stand and the mini-hologram (for what that’s worth).  Later, VC16 added the headset back.  That release represents the best version of this Obi-Wan sculpt.

As discussed in previous reviews, the TAC 08-01 figure has ball jointed hips, complemented with a soft goods lower tunic.  That’s a great upgrade.  Sadly, the figure lacks the unlit hilt, a robe of any kind, as well as the headset.  It does, however, include a stand, which was re-introduced into the line with the 2008 TAC figures.  Basically, if you had VC16 and TAC 08-01, you could almost build the ultimate Episode III Obi-Wan.

As for this figure, it’s still an excellent base figure.  If Hasbro wanted to make a modern upgrade, they definitely could pull it off, but the effort wouldn’t really be worth it, at least for now.  This is one of the better 15 year old figures available.  I’ll give it the same 7 as the TVC version, while the TAC gets an 8.  Remember, the lack of the headset allows VC16 to get the nod by a fraction of a point, but otherwise, it sill works very well in your 2020 collection.
