I was really excited about this figure when it first came out.  And since I also was into the UGH chase variants, it made Cody a must have for me - in multiples.  In 2006, as far as clone figures went, Cody was a fantastic design.  He was one of the senior commanders in the GAR.  He was pals with Obi-Wan, (a camaraderie that went back to the Clone Wars microseries).  He had a distinctive helmet and armor compliment.  His colors and markings were unique. He had a lot going for him.

Out of the package, by 2006 standards, he was very good.  He had decent articulation.  Ball joints at the head, elbows, torso, and knees.  He had swivels at the wrists and hips.  Sadly, the real problems were that he had swivel shoulders and no ankles.  These severely limited the functionality and posability of Cody.  The paint applications are excellent, including nice wear on the orange markings, some carbon scoring throughout, and a dirt wash on the lower body.  One small problem with the sculpt is that Cody has a somewhat non-neutral pose, which is something that Hasbro should generally avoid.

The helmet is a great design, and Hasbro executed the look very well.  Unfortunately it’s a bit undersized, and Cody has a bit of a pea head underneath.  The likeness to Temuera Morrison is pretty good, complete with some scarring.

Cody comes with two blasters and a removable back pack, along with the helmet. He interacts reasonably well with each of the accessories, although the backpack is a bit loose.

So in 2006, this was a solid figure.  However, in 2009, Hasbro smashed this one with BD44 in the Legacy Collection.  Furthermore, that figure received some worthwhile enhancements with its upgraded re-release in 2010’s TVC as VC19.  This isn’t a bad figure per se, but those versions definitely render this one pretty much obsolete.  If you’re in the market for a Commander Cody, VC19 is the way to go.  There is nothing this figure offers that isn’t bested by the TVC version.  As such, there is no need to pick this one up.  In fact, I put together a lineup of unique 212th characters/troopers, and this version of Cody didn’t make the cut (image 20, above).
