Yesterday we reviewed Poggle the Lesser’s lieutenant and wave-mate, Sun Fac.  We gave it a strong 6/10 (while it’s successor from 2012 with added ball jointed knees managed to secure a 7/10).  It was almost fully super-articulated (minus the knees), it was well sculpted and detailed, strikingly painted, and had a couple of accessories.  It was one of the standouts of the first few waves of The Saga Collection.

While Sun Fac was (probably) not even in AOTC, Poggle the Lesser featured fairly prominently in that film, while also having a few brief appearances in ROTS, including getting sliced in half on Mustafar by the newly anointed Darth Vader.  His big moments were sentencing Anakin and Padmé to death, and handing over the “Ultimate Weapon” plans to Count Dooku (which got a lot of oohs and ahs from the audience when I saw it on opening night back in aught two).

There’s about to be less Poggle

Poggle the Lesser was previously released in the first of two Geonosian War Room 3-packs from the 2003 Blue SAGA collection.  This is a simple repaint (and a pretty slight one, at that).  It is otherwise identical.  So again, The Saga Collection underwhelms from the standpoint of advancing the world of action figures.  I’m hoping Chris was right about this collection taking the next steps towards modern figures, but so far, it’s been slow going.

As a 2003 figure, it’s severely lacking in the articulation department.  He’s got swivel shoulders, hips, and one wrist, along with the wings.  He’s also got a ball jointed head.  He’s under-articulated by modern standards, and there isn’t a whole lot you can do with him.  But you can get him to stand and look great with the other Separatist leaders.  He’s got a really interesting look, which seems to be very accurate to the on-screen character.  His unusual appearance, which is very different from other members of his species, is captured well in the figure.  The only accessory is his cane, which he can grip well, and he can be posed to look like he’s really leaning into it.  It’s a nice figure, with great details.  He just doesn’t do much.

The sculpt and articulated wings manage to earn a 6/10, even though its origins date back to 2003.  It’s not quite as good of a figure as Sun Fac, but it’s definitely the most interesting looking Geonosian available in the entire line.  It goes great with Dooku and the other Separatists, and also looks perfect on the balcony of the Geonosis Arena Playset.
