Sun Fac was an aide of sorts to Poggle the Lesser (review coming soon) on Geonosis.  It’s a bit confusing, but he wasn’t actually in Attack of the Clones.  He was part of the script of two scenes that were cut from the final version of the film, but were eventually released as deleted scenes. First, he was supposedly in the background when Padmé and Anakin are brought before Dooku and Poggle right after their capture.  Sun Fac is possibly one of the Geonosians in the background.  But due to the dark lighting, he is hard to make out - if he’s even actually there.

Later, Padmé and Anakin are put on trial presided over by Poggle himself.  According to early drafts (and maybe the novelization?), Sun Fac has lines of dialogue, and he is the one who announces the sentence for the two heroes as death by execution in the arena.  In the deleted scene, it seems this part didn’t make the final version either, at least not the cut I saw for myself.

To further complicate matters, Sun Fac was named Sun Rit in early drafts of AOTC.  For whatever reason, “Rit” was deemed an unsatisfactory name, but “Fac” was cool.  Sun Fac did finally make a formerly canon “screen” appearance in the fan favorite game, Republic Commando.  One of the missions has the Clone Commando team chase down Sun Fac, and his escape ship, with him inside, is blasted out of the sky by the player.

Unlike figures like Constable Zuvio, which was an unfortunate mistake since the character was a late deletion from The Force Awakens, Hasbro actually intended to make Sun Fac in 2006, 4 years after AOTC had hit theaters.  Either because of the deleted scenes, print media, or even the video game, Sun Fac was deemed worthy to be immortalized in plastic.  It’s another example of how awesome the line once was.  Hasbro intentionally created a figure of a character that was so deep in the background, even many of the most dedicated fans probably didn’t even know who he was.

Hasbro made a nice figure in Sun Fac.  It may not be the most exciting choice, as Geonosians seemed to not be the most popular collectibles, but they made the most of the opportunity.  It’s an excellent sculpt, with a lot of detail built into the creepy bug alien.  He’s wearing a colorful armored outfit, which helps him stand out from previously released Geonosian figures.  He’s got a surprising amount to articulation, including ball jointed head, shoulders, elbows and knees, along with swivel wrists and waist.  The lack of knees does hinder posability, but the alien legs and ball jointed feet actually give you a little bit of leeway here that a human figure with the same lower body articulation can’t match.  Sun Fac is missing his right eye in the old canon, and Hasbro painted it accurately, including the accompanying face scar.

Sun Fac comes with a staff, which he can hold with both hands.  The grips are a bit too loose, but you can still pose him easily in a standard stance so he can lurk behind Poggle the Lesser and look important. He also comes with the weird Geonosian blaster hand cannon, which he can grip well in a Two-Handed fashion, similar to the way Cara Dune handles her own heavy weapon.

Interestingly, Hasbro updated this figure in 2012, which is even weirder that they doubled down on this obscure character.  It was released in the bizarre and ill-fated TLC2 Droid Factory line.  The figure was nearly identical, except Hasbro took the time to add ball jointed knees.  Hasbro managed to botch that effort by failing to accurately paint the missing/scarred eye.  He also lacks the blaster cannon, which isn’t a huge deal, but still reduces the value of that figure.  So in the end it’s a bit of a toss up, with some pros and cons for both.  Perhaps the tie-breaker is the inclusion of the droid part with the TLC2 figure.

Overall, this is a really good figure for 2006.  Terrific sculpt, lots of details, nice accessories, and very good articulation - falling just short of actual “super articulation.”  I give it a very solid 6.  I would give the slight nod to the TLC2 figure.  Chris gave that a 6 at the time of the original review, but due to our more standardized score, I think we’d give that a 7 now.  Whatever the case, this figure manages to avoid straight up obsolescence, and works well with your arena setups, even if you have the newer version.
