Here’s another oddity from the Saga line, or the deluxe sub-line, to be more specific. Seems like Hasbro took most of the main characters and sculpted/accessorized them in some way that is either anachronistic (Padme with a droid blaster, while still chained) or straight out of fantasy, like this one.
Anakin, of course, wielded two lightsabers during his duel with Dooku. This was after he got his second wind following his being on the receiving end of a good jolt of Sith lightning. This figure is most certainly inspired by that onscreen lightsaber fight, but this is not a 2-pack of Anakin and Dooku. It’s a two pack of Anakin and some Geonosian fodder. Anakin was lucky to have his own lightsaber for at least some period of time while battling the locals inside the droid factory, before it got cut in half by one of the machines on the assembly line. That, therefore, begs the question, “Why does Anakin come with his own lightsaber?” By the time he double-fisted Dooku, that one was long gone. So he should have the two random spare hilts that were given to both he and Obi-Wan upon the arrival of the Jedi Strike Team.
Anyway, the Anakin figure is bizarre, but it does sort of live up to the “slashing action” label. Yet another action feature by Hasbro puts a button square in the center of Anakin’s back, which activates both of his arms in a way that would allow him to perform a “pass incomplete” motion. Hasbro obviously loves football, as they also produced the 02-36 Obi-Wan Kenobi (Starfighter Pilot’s) action feature that signals a touchdown. With blades in hand, Anakin performs a move vaguely similar to the one he would use later in ROTS when he beheads Dooku.
The slashing action feature works, but it’s a bit understated, and doesn’t quite match the scream sculpted into his face. That’s another oddity, although I admittedly find it kind of neat. Anakin has a screaming face, which looks more like he was frozen in mid-jump off his couch as he’s about to complain about the officiating while watching a Jawa Football League team on his TV, than he is enraged at the foe he’s about to slice. I mean, that was obviously a catch, you blind zebras!
The foe here is a poor Geonosian Warrior, which is the “star” of the set. It’s not really any good as a true action figure. It’s sculpted into 3 parts that can be assembled to give the appearance of a complete figure. If you use Anakin’s slashing lightsabers (or if you breathe) the figure falls apart, sliced in three. What you get there is the neat part. The sliced Geonosian. These pieces make great fodder for around your battle diorama. During the droid foundry scene, Anakin certainly does slash his way through a ton of disposable bugs. Again, he does it with one saber, though. Oh, and he’s also wearing his robe in that scene. But those are just silly details.
Get this for the Geonosian Warrior parts, and scatter them around your arena battlefield. Otherwise, you are advised to stay away from this nonsensical figure. 3/10.
