We’ve already reviewed the two companion sets to these Walmart exclusive Cantina packs, Greedo and Ponda Baba.  This was the third set released in the first (and only) Walmart exclusive wave, and it included Momaw Nadon.

Greedo was a repaint of the Commtech figure.  Ponda Baba was a retool of the POTF2 figure.  Momaw Nadon is also a retool, but the entire body is different, which is strange.  It seems the head, arms, and legs are carried forward, but for whatever reason, Hasbro decided they didn’t like the original outfit that they made for the sculpt and paint on the POTF2 figure.  It’s almost like he had a wardrobe change in in the middle of filming - which actually would seem entirely plausible given the haphazard and borderline insanity that comprised of the cantina scene production.

This version of Mr. Nadon has him donning what can only be called a sculpted plastic shmata.  Is it more screen accurate?  Yes.  Did anyone care back then?  I don’t know.  But it essentially made it the most definitive version in existence at the time of release.  That title would last another 4 years, until the TSC figure came out.  At that point, it was pretty much accepted that the proper outfit it was indeed the shmata rather than a vest.

Other than the poor articulation, back in 2002 I had no problem with this figure, and thought it was a pretty cool version of Hammerhead, and would be the last one I need.  That TSC version is so much better, but still was poorly articulated.  I’m not saying it’s any kind of priority, but It could be updated, for sure.  Especially since Momaw Nadon does actually sit down in a cantina alcove.  The irony there is that Momaw is the only figure in this three figure set that does not have hinged knees to allow for sitting.  And he’s the only character that actually sits down in the film!  Sometimes Hasbro is maddening.  Whaddya gonna do?  #FIGHTFORTVC!  Oh, sorry, that’s a whole different story.

Anyway, it looks like Hasbro put the most effort into this one, but it’s probably the least useful.  In the end, all three were made obsolete by far superior (if not always definitive) versions of the characters.  That leaves the straight bar sections and the bar glasses as the main reasons to own this set today.  Momaw gets a 3/10, despite the resculpt, mostly because he can’t sit.
