Yesterday we reviewed the companion set to this Ponda Boba, which was Greedo.  Here you get the identical setup of a figure, 3 bar glasses, and a straight bar section.  In this case, the included figure is Ponda Baba.

Like the Greedo, the figure is an update to an existing figure, but here, Ponda Baba was retooled instead of just repainted.  “Walrusman”, as he used to be called, was updated to include articulated knees, which allow him to sit on the barstool.  This was important, because it would have been frustrating to have the stool, but an included figure that would otherwise not be able to interact with it.  On the other hand, we already discussed yesterday that there were no stools in the cantina, so Ponda Baba doesn’t actually ever sit - at least not on screen.  I assume that he did occasionally sit off screen, because that would be kinda weird if he didn’t.

Ponda also has a new right arm, allowing you to recreate the scene where Obi-Wan Kenobi separated it from his body.  It just kind of pops out via a peg.  There’s no blood or gore, but it works for that pivotal moment in the film when we get our first ever look at the Jedi’s weapon of choice.

The straight bar section is, for all intents and purposes, identical the ones offered in the other two sets (Greedo and Momaw Nadon), but there are some slight paint variations - intentional or otherwise.  Connecting a 3 gives you an entire side of the bar. Not too shabby.

Overall, the figure gets a 5/10, as the added articulation and removable arm give it an edge over a typical underaticulated figure.  But it matters not, as the VC70 Ponda Baba annihilates this one, and renders it obsolete.  Get this only for the bar set, and move along.
