I know you’ve all been waiting for more reviews of 5POA figures. I managed to roll one out a few months ago before I went on vacation forever by virtue of leaving the NY metro area. As for the other 7 sets, I did my best to photograph them before I had to pack up all my stuff, so these galleries have been in the can for quite a while, and I finally took the time to write up a review. Here’s one, just to give me ol’ pal Chris a break from running the site on his own. Be sure to tell him what a fine job he’s been doing. It’s not an easy task.
BB-8
Here’s a figure that really needed to be squeezed into TVC somehow. Perhaps a collector level version could have had some tools/hatches, just like R2-D2. Launch-wave Rey wouldn’t have been such a nightmarish dead-on-arrival release if she was two-packed with this little guy. Instead, Hasbro just re-released it in this exceedingly dull set. While BB-8 saw several releases over the course of the 5POA line, this one seems to be a straight repack of the TLJ version that came in the TLC 2-pack of Rose (FO Disguise) BB-8 & BB-9E.
Porg
The adorable porg was first available in with Chewbacca in the main TLJ line, and was then re-released with some minor paint variations with the TVC Millennium Falcon (Smuggler’s Run). It’s fine they included it here, but at this point, the world is well beyond it’s brief fascination with this little bird.
Rey
This figure was released exactly 214 times in various 5POA formats. But it’s the first time Rey is available in this outfit with Photoreal. Originally sold as TLJ Rey, it’s kind of shocking that she never received a proper TVC release. So while you have had multiple opportunities to add this subpar action figure to your collection, it remains the only format in which you can have TLJ Rey, and this is the only one with PhotoReal. As such, this may be worth your time.
Finn
TLJ Finn also had a few releases, but as with Rey, this is the only time the character has gotten the PhotoReal treatment in his basic TLJ outfit. Finn likewise suffers from not having gotten a TLJ release - from any source. That’s terrible from a Star Wars point of view, but understandable from a Hasbro financial point of view. Like Rey, the PhotoReal aspect may make Finn worth a look.
Poe Dameron
TLJ Poe Dameron also was released a few times. This is the first time he got PhotoReal in the 5POA format. However, unlike his pals Rey and Finn, Poe does have a proper TVC release. Therefore, this version is an easy pass.
C-3PO
TLJ C-3PO was a good figure when it was originally released in the main 5POA line. The gold finish might leave fans underwhelmed, but it’s a nice sculpt despite the minimal articulation. If you’re looking for an all-bronze C-3PO, this is your lucky day. Again.
